2.2 Site Remediation:

2.2.1 Complete remediation of the site to include removal of pumps, piping, and associated concrete (16’x 29’ pad), disposal of all waste materials to include tank sludge, fuel, impacted soil around the tanks and pumps. Max depth of excavation is estimated to be no greater than 12 feet.

During excavation the contractor shall monitor any changes to soil or sand that surrounds the UST’s that displays signs of contamination. If contamination is present the COR is required to be notified to verify the quantity that needs to be removed. Contractor shall include a line item for disposal of contaminated soil at a per 55 gallon barrel quantity. All waste materials must be disposed of in accordance with Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) approved procedures and at an approved facility.

2.2.2 Backfill of tank excavation will be completed with lake provided material, (POC will provide the material location), backfill material must be compacted into excavation with excavator bucket, and ground surface is to be level and approximately 4 inches below existing grade. Backfill must be placed in lifts not exceeding 12 inches and at a minimum be bucket compacted, to limit settling of fill materials. Compaction will be tight enough so that no more than 1 inch imprint from a rubber tired machine will be present after driven across.

Contractor will be required to transport and place all material. Finish grade of the excavation will match existing grade of surrounding area. Work area is to be returned to equal or better shape than prior to the project beginning. Area may be crowned vertically with additional material no more than 2 inches, starting at the center of the backfill sloping out to the 4 sides of the perimeter.
