TR-01 PRINCIPAL FEATURES

Principal items to be performed to accomplish the work (repairs) consist of the following tasks:

a) Inspection and Assessment: Conduct a thorough inspection of the airfield to identify the extent of the damage, including cracks, joint/crack problems, potholes, and other areas in need of resealing and/or repainting.

b) Surface Preparation: Clean and sweep designated areas to remove any debris, dirt, and other contaminants that may interfere with the repair work.

c) Sealing of Asphalt: Seal asphalt in designated areas in the airfield pavement, including runways, taxiways, and aprons, using a suitable, high-quality sealant that meets the requirements of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 3-260-01, 3-260-04 and, 3-270-01.

d) Repainting and Remarking: Remark designated airfield surfaces, including runways, taxiways, and aprons, to ensure they are clearly visible and meet the host nation, US, and Army regulations.

e) Material Application: Apply sealant, paint, and marking materials in accordance with (IAW) the manufacturer’s instructions and industry best practices. All material shall be high-quality that meets the standards required by host nation, US, and Army aviation regulations.

1. Quality Control: Inspect the work to ensure that it meets the required standards and specifications and UFC 3-270-01: at a minimum, hairline cracks (less than 0.25 inch or 6 mm) are considered micro-cracks and are not sealed unless the micro-cracks cover 80% or more of the pavement area or is within 75 ft of either side of a taxiway or runway center line.

Therefore, at a minimum, cracks with a width/length of 0.25 inch or 6 mm or greater will be considered for repair.

2. Crack Sealing Methodology: The SOW references a method statement for crack sealing, which outline the procedures and methodology for identifying and repairing cracks. The contractor should follow this to determine the size and extent of cracks to be repaired.

3. Measurement Tools: To ensure accurate measurement of crack widths, the contractor should use suitable measurement tools, such as a crack width gauge or a digital caliper.

4. Prioritization: The contractor should prioritize the repair of cracks based on their size, severity, and location. Cracks that are wider, deeper, or located in high-traffic areas should be given higher priority for repair.

By following these guidelines, the contractor can ensure that the size of cracks to be repaired under the SOW is accurately determined and that the repair work is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the contract.
