About this file

This document provides details for a federal solicitation to supply high resistance grounding equipment for Fort Peck Dam in Montana. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering District Omaha is seeking to replace the low impedance reactor and breaker with a high resistance grounding system for all five generating units at Fort Peck Dam powerhouse. The high resistance grounding equipment will reduce damage to generator cables and the generator from single line-to-ground faults, which are common at hydroelectric facilities. Interested vendors must register in the System for Award Management to access the solicitation documents, which will be posted on Federal Business Opportunities. Offers are due by the date specified in the solicitation on FBO. The equipment will be supplied only, as installation will be performed by federal employees at Fort Peck Dam powerhouse.

Question and Answer for W9128F20Q0025 10 August 2020

Question: The transformer winding is a parallel path to our measurement circuit which defeats its functionality. It is also another point of failure on the system -that isn’t easy to monitor. Our recommendation is to use a NGR that is directly connected between Xo and ground and rated for full LN voltage. This is easy for us to monitor.

Would it be possible to modify the specification?

Answer: No NGR is needed, the SEL700G relay will provide the required protection.
