About this file
This specification covers the fabrication and installation of a lamprey passage system for The Dalles Lock and Dam. Key requirements include fabricating and installing an aluminum entrance ramp, flumes, rest boxes, and trap box to safely guide lamprey from the East Fish Ladder to the trap box. The flumes must meet certain slope and elevation requirements. The trap box must include a fyke and baffles to keep lamprey inside, and allow operation between 0.5 to 2.5 feet of hydrostatic head. The contractor must have experience with similar non-standard equipment fabrication. Shop drawings, product data, samples and test reports are required to be submitted for approval. The system must be tested for design flow, valve function, and slope verification before acceptance. Operation and maintenance manuals documenting the equipment and test results must also be submitted. This specification supports the TDA Fish Accords Lamprey solicitation issued by the US Army Corps of Engineers on April 28, 2023 for fish passage improvements at The Dalles Lock and Dam.

3.5.2 Valves
Run the design flow through each valve and drain. Ensure that each valve and drain can shut off the flow when actuated. Ensure there is no leakage when the valve is closed.
3.5.3 Flumes
Run the design flow through each flume. Ensure there are no leaks from flume section joints.
3.5.4 Slope Verification
Conduct surveys to verify the slope of the flumes. Verify the slopes of the flumes are within the required ranges stated in Part 2 Products.
3.5.5 Field Test Report

e. Record keeping of the performance of the equipment being tested (motor amps, voltage, speed, flow, pressure, temperatures, etc.).
3.6 CLEANING
a. Exposed surfaces of piping and equipment that have become covered with dirt, plaster, or other material during handling and construction must be thoroughly cleaned before such surfaces are prepared for final finish painting or are enclosed within the building structure.
b. Before final acceptance, mechanical equipment, including piping, ducting, and fixtures, must be clean and free from dirt, grease, and finger marks.
c. Cleaning of Surfaces to be bonded. Thoroughly clean surfaces that comprise the bond before joining. Apply an appropriate abrasive with gentle and uniform pressure to ensure a smooth and uniform surface.
Then clean bare metal with an appropriate solvent to remove any grease, oil, dirt, corrosion preventives, oxidation, and other contaminants. Bond to the cleaned area within one hour after cleaning.
Apply an approved antioxidant compound to both contact surfaces as recommended by the antioxidant manufacturer where connecting dissimilar metals and where connections are exposed to weather.
d. Field construction work must incorporate housekeeping which leaves all equipment in the affected area free of construction generated dust and debris, and all floor surfaces vacuum-swept clean.
3.7 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL
In accordance with the requirements set forth in Section 01 78 23.00 25, OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE DATA, complete operating and maintenance data regarding the fish handling equipment must be submitted as part of the O&M manual.
