PILE DIKE 4.01 - PLAN VIEW

N

NOTES:

1. ROCK THICKNESS HAS BEEN ESTIMATED BASED ON EXISTING CONDITIONS, CONSTRUCTION REPORTS, AND HISTORICAL DATA. ACTUAL ROCK

THICKNESS ENCOUNTERED MAY VARY.

2. WHERE NECESSARY, THE CONTRACTOR MAY REMOVE EXISTING PILES AT THE CENTER ALIGNMENT TEST LOCATIONS TO CREATE SUFFICIENT SPACE

TO ADVANCE THE TEST PILES. REFER TO SPEC 02 41 00 FOR EXISTING PILE DEMOLITION.

3. THE FOUR TEST PILE SYSTEMS ARE: PILE ONLY, RING, CONE, AND ROCK SHOE. THE "PILE ONLY" SYSTEM CONSISTS OF ONLY THE OPEN STEEL PILE

WITHOUT A SHOE OR OTHER END TREATMENT. FOR THE "RING" TEST PILE SYSTEM, THE PILE WILL BE FITTED WITH AN OPEN-ENDED CUTTING SHOE.

A CONICAL SHOE WILL BE ATTACHED TO THE PILE FOR THE "CONE" TEST PILE SYSTEM. A CONICAL ROCK-BREAKING SHOE WILL BE ATTACHED TO THE

PILE FOR THE "ROCK SHOE" TEST PILE SYSTEM. FOR INFORMATION ON THE PILES AND SHOES, REFER TO SPEC 31 62 16.16 25, AND DRAWING C-501.

4. AT EACH TEST LOCATION, CONTRACTOR WILL ADVANCE THE PILE TO REFUSAL OR MINIMUM EMBEDMENT DEPTH USING THE FIRST TEST PILE

SYSTEM. THE CONTRACTOR WILL OFFSET A MINIMUM OF THREE DIAMETERS PARALLEL TO THE DIKE ALIGNMENT AND ADVANCE THE SECOND TEST

PILE SYSTEM TO REFUSAL OR THE MINIMUM EMBEDMENT DEPTH. THIS WILL BE FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER OFFSET AND THE THIRD TEST, IF

APPLICABLE. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE TEST PILE SYSTEM PROGRESSION, REFER TO SPEC 31 62 16.16 25.

5. AT TEST POINTS WHERE MULTIPLE TEST PILE SYSTEMS ARE ADVANCED, THE SAME PILE OR A PREPARED PILE SHALL BE USED FOR EACH SYSTEM. IF

THE SAME PILE IS TO BE USED, ANY DAMAGE AT EITHER END OF THE PILE SHALL BE REMOVED OR OTHERWISE REPAIRED PRIOR TO THE

ADVANCEMENT OF THE NEXT TEST PILE SYSTEM..

6. ALL STEEL TEST PILES WILL BE REMOVED UPON COMPLETION OF THE TEST. NO STEEL TEST PILES WILL BE ALLOWED TO REMAIN IN PLACE AS DRIVEN

DURING TESTING UPON COMPLETION OF THE TEST PROGRAM.

7. FOR PILE ONLY TESTS AND RING TESTS, THE LENGTH OF SOIL/ROCK PLUG IN THE PILE AFTER DRIVING MUST BE DETERMINED BY THE CONTRACTOR.
