SECTION 09 97 02.00 25 Page 2 of the skin plate. The skin plate's thickness along the bottom of the gate is also included in the painting work. Reference informational drawing DE-112-91.
(3) Six foot tall horizontal strip from side to side of the gate with its top edge starting two feet below the top of gate. The sides of the horizontal strip start one foot from both of the skin plate's vertical edges. Additional coats running the entire entire width may be required due to additional wear and tear.
(4) 15 square feet per gate will be divided into 6 square inch increments that must be prepared by chemical stripping prior to surface grinding of select pitted areas on the upstream face of the gate skin plate surface. Areas to be painted shall be determined by the Government COR Representative.
b. Downstream
All of the exposed faces and edges of the 1/2-inch bent plate at the bottom of the gate along its entire length measured from both vertical edges of the skin plate. This includes the faces underneath the bottom seal, clamp bar, and clamping accessories.

3.6 SUPPLEMENTARY APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Surfaces must be coated with the system indicated in the schedule and/or as noted on the drawings in accordance with the following instructions.
Thesevinyl systems must be sprayed applied to an average dry film thickness of at least 7.0 mils for the completed system, and the thickness at any spot must not be less than 6.0 mils. The dry film thickness of the zinc-rich coat must be a minimum of 2.5 mil. The specified film thickness, including the prescribed total, must be attained in any event, and any extra coats needed to attain specified film thickness must be applied at no additional cost to the Government. Attainment of the specified film thickness by applying fewer than prescribed number of coats or spray passes will be accepted provided heavier applications do not cause an increase in unacceptable conditions such as, runs, sags, pinholes, bubbles, blisters, or voids in the dried film and provided that not more than 2.0 mils (dry film thickness) per double spray coat, nor more than 1.0 mil per single spray pass of non-zinc paint must be applied in any event. The final coat of aluminum vinyl must not be applied by a roller. See safety provisions and special directions for applying vinyl type paints. Submit for approval a touch up Touch Up Procedure in accordance with the manufacturers method of repair and the requirements with in this paragraph.
