Clean-Up Spills of unmixed components can be cleaned up with solvent (Toluol, Xylol, MEK, denatured alcohol, etc). Clean tools and spills before epoxy or mortar has set using solvent or warm soapy water.
11. Coverage, Aggregate Loading One (1) gallon of Armor-Hard liquid contains approximately 232 cubic inches of liquid. When combining with aggregate use a dry, bagged type of even consistency/gradation. Grit sizes of #20 to #40-44 are commonly available through tile/masonry suppliers, etc. Blending a smaller grit (#40) with a larger grit (#20) can improve trowelability. The surface density of your repair will depend upon aggregate type/size, method of troweling and aggregate-to-liquid loading.
As a rule, Armor-Hard will accept an aggregate loading of approximately 3 to 6 times its volume (begin with 3 gallons of sand aggregate to each gallon of Armor-Hard and work up to reasonable mixture for placement and troweling).
When calculating mortar yield, recognize that 1 gallon liquid plus 1 gallon aggregate does not produce 2 gallons of mortar since much of the epoxy liquid is absorbed by the aggregate.
For example, 1 gallon of epoxy liquid plus 2 gallons aggregate will usually yield approximately 2 gallons of blended mortar.
If you are concerned about selecting the proper aggregate, or achieving the proper aggregate loading, consider the Armor-Hard KIT. This “kit” comes with just under 1/2 gallon of Armor-Hard epoxy liquid and a pre-measured amount of blended aggregate developed to yield a dense, easily troweled mortar.
12. Shelf Life and Storage Armor-Hard has a guaranteed shelf life of 12 months if containers remain unopened. Store in dry, cool areas away from excessive heat, freeze/thaw and sunlight. See complete installation instructions for information.
13. Safety This product is for industrial use only. Use only in well ventilated areas. Practice all normal jobsite safety precautions (clear work area, etc). Thoroughly read and understand SDS and installation instructions for additional information prior to using material.
14. Food Related Facilities USDA prohibits the use of any chemicals in areas where existing food or food packaging can be contaminated. Contact Metzger/ McGuire for further details if food products are present.
9. Availability Armor-Hard is available through quality construction supply distributors in most major U.S. cities and through distributors/ representatives in certain foreign markets and through our New Hampshire headquarters. Source listings can be found at www.
metzgermcguire.com or via e-mail (info@metzgermcguire.com) or phone (800-223-MM80).
10. Installation Instructions Surface Preparation All surfaces must be clean, dry, structurally sound and free of grease, oil, coatings, sealers, paint, etc. Surface preparation may be accomplished by grinding, sawing, chipping, sandblast-ing, etc. Prevent featheredging by creating a vertical edge (1/2” minimum, 3/4” preferred) at outer point of defect to be repaired.
See Metzger/McGuire’s Guide to Basic Floor Repair and related information on repair procedures for recommendations. New con-crete should have minimum cure of 30 days.
Mixing (Read product container labels and SDS before using) Caution–Due to 4:1 ratio, the entire contents of both epoxy parts should be used. If using less than full unit, ”A” and “B” ratio must be measured precisely by volumetric comparison.
Ambient temperature should be at least 50˚F (10˚C). Combine parts “A” and “B” in a plastic pail and mix for 2-3 minutes using a Jiffy-type mixer and a variable speed drill. Keep drill speed below 800 rpm to avoid air entrapment. If using as a liquid, dispense promptly.
If using as a mortar, application of mixed liquid as a primer coat (brush) will enhance mortar adhesion.
Mortar mixing is best achieved using a 1/2” heavy-duty drill with a mortar mixing paddle or a rotating pail mixer. Thoroughly mix epoxy liquid, then gradually add aggregate. Continue to add aggregate until mixture appears slightly dry, but all aggregate is “wetted”with the epoxy. Mix for an additional 2-3 minutes after optimum aggregate loading.
Dispensing Promptly install mortar into defect, spread evenly using clean steel trowel. Finish installing each unit before mixing the next.
Trowel mortar to desired density and finish texture. If mortar starts to stiffen and creates trowel drag, wipe trowel with denatured alcohol or acetone. The final surface density and appearance will reflect trowel pressure and intensity. Working time for mortar is approximately 30-40 minutes at 70˚F.

The Industry Standard Heavy-Duty, Semi-Rigid Epoxy Joint Filler for Class 6-9 Industrial Concrete Floors
1. Product Name
MM-80
2. Manufacturer
METZGER/MCGUIRE
PO Box 2217 Concord, NH 03302 (USA) Phone: 603-224-6122 Fax: 603-224-6020 Web: www.metzgermcguire.com
3. Product Description Composition:
MM-80 is a two-component, 100% solids content epoxy joint filler.
When cured, MM-80 is a gray, semi-rigid (hard but slightly resilient) filler with a Shore hardness of A90-95.
Related Products:
MM-80 is available in two versions; MM-80 with the original 5:1 ratio, used primarily for manual dispensing, and MM-80P, with a 1:1 mix ratio, intended for use in dual-component mechanized pumps.
Basic Use:
MM-80 was developed to fill and protect joints in industrial concrete floors that are subject to hard wheeled material handling traffic and heavy loads. Its primary function is to support such traffic and protect joint edges. MM-80 is designed for use in areas where final temperatures are from 40˚F (10˚C) to +120˚F (49˚C). It is also ideal for joint and crack repair.
4. Limitations MM-80 is not designed for use in:
• True expansion/isolation joints
• Exterior joints (paving, etc.)
• Joints exposed to extreme chemical exposure
• Joints under VCT/seamless floor coverings (in most settings)
As with most semi-rigid joint fillers, MM-80 may discolor if subjected to UV rays from certain types of lighting systems.
5. Correct Joint Design/Installation MM-80 should be installed full joint depth in saw-cut control joints (or 2” minimum in joints where depth exceeds 2”) per PCA and ACI guidelines. In construction (formed) joints that are not saw-cut, MM- 80 should be installed 2” deep. If shrinkage crack is excessive and needs to be “choked off,” it may be sealed with clean, dry silica sand as shown below (contractor’s option).
6. Color and Packaging Standard color is medium gray. MM-80 can be custom colored.
Contact Metzger/McGuire for details.
MM-80 is available in 1 gal. (US), 5 gal. (US) and 30 gal. (US) kits.
7. Applicable Specifications There are no government or ASTM standards for floor joint fillers. MM-80 meets and/or exceeds the floor joint filler guide-lines set forth by the American Concrete Institute (302.1 R-04 Guide for Concrete Floor and Slab Construction, ACI Committee 302), ACI 360 and PCA (Concrete Floors on Ground, Third Edition 2001, James A. Farny, PCA).
8. Advantages MM-80’s superior formulation yields sufficient rigidity to support loads crossing joints, protecting edges from spalling, and sufficient resiliency to prevent brittleness throughout the floor’s life.
MM-80 exhibits low range tensile and adhesive strengths, characteristics necessary to allow the joints to open as the concrete shrinkage progresses.
MM-80’s relative hardness has been gradually increased through the years to reflect increasing demands on floors created by heavier loads and smaller, harder vehicle wheels.
MM-80 is the joint filler upon which ACI and PCA standards are based. You can specify and use MM-80 with the confidence that comes from a project-proven track record of more than thirty years, and with the knowledge that you are relying on the best floor joint protection available in the industry.
9. USDA/FDA/CFIA/LEED® Acceptability MM-80 is acceptable for use in floors subject to inspection/ regulation by USDA/FDA and Environment Canada/CFIA.
MM-80 contains no VOC’s and fully complies with all LEED® green building standards.

15. Installation - Dispensing (Continued) Check joints periodically to ensure low spots do not occur due to seepage.
Do not fill flush and leave, as low filler profile is likely to occur. Allow material to cure into solid (approximately 6-8 hours minimum) and shave or grind material flush with floor surface. If shaving, heat material lightly with propane torch or other heating source prior to shaving to ease the shaving process and ensure a smoother filler profile. Use respirator mask if heating overfill.
Any overfill not removed during razoring may leave a slight stain on concrete. The degree of staining will depend on the surface density (porosity) of the slab. The stain will gradually fade as a result of subsequent traffic and floor cleaning procedures. Stains can be reduced or avoided by using Metzger/McGuire’s SPF (stain preventing film). See product data for more information.
Clean-Up Spills of unmixed components can be cleaned up with solvent (Toluol, MEK, Denatured Alcohol, etc). Cured product can be shaved off floor and tools.
16. Maintenance Once cured, MM-80 is basically maintenance free. If joints should open after installation due to concrete shrinkage, fill any voids exceeding credit card width with additional MM-80 or Metzger/McGuire’s Spal-Pro RS 88. Refer to Technical Bulletin T11 (Joint Filler Separation; Causes & Corrections) for additional information.

12. Quality Installation Program When you specify “MM-80, No Substitutes” your project is eligible for our Quality Assurance Program. This project-tracking program helps ensure that MM-80 is properly installed. There is no charge for this service.
13. Where to Specify and File MM-80 is exclusively for use in concrete floors and thus should always be referenced in 03251 (expansion/contraction joints), 03300 (cast-in-place concrete) and/or 03930 (control joint sealers). It is not a sealant and should not be specified as part of 07900, other than for cross reference.
14. Availability MM-80 is available through quality construction supply distributors (listing available at www.metzgermcguire.com) or through our NH headquarters.
15. Installation The following instructions are ABBREVIATED. Complete instructions are provided with each shipment.
When to Install - The installation of MM-80 should be deferred as long as possible after slab placement, and should not be installed prior to 30 days to ensure adequate adhesion. ACI recommends a slab cure of 60- 90 days or longer, to permit for greater concrete shrinkage/joint opening, lessening the expected incidence of joint filler separation. Ambient areas should be stabilized at final operating temperature prior to installation, refrigerated areas stabilized and held for an additional 7-14 days or longer, if possible. Refer to Technical Bulletin T5 (Filler Installation Timing) for additional information.
Joint Preparation - Joints should be completely free of saw laitance, dirt, debris, coatings/sealers and frost or visible moisture. Joint cleaning procedures must accomplish the removal of all of the above. Failure to do so will compromise adhesion. Simply “raking” debris out of joint is not an acceptable cleaning method. The preferred method of joint cleaning is to use a dustless concrete saw with diamond blade (ensure blade is slightly wider than joint or clean both sides). No primer is needed. If unusual conditions are present, contact Metzger/McGuire.
If possible concrete staining from joint filler overfill is an issue, apply Metzger/McGuire’s SPF (stain preventing film) prior to material installation, being careful to prevent SPF from entering joints, as it may compromise adhesion. If SPF enters joints, clean joints as outlined previously.
The applicator may, at his option, choke-off the shrinkage crack at the base of the joint with a 1/4” maximum layer of clean, dry silica sand.
Do not use compressible backer rod (Ethafoam, etc) in saw cut joints less than 2” deep. The applicator may use a compressible backer rod in through-slab construction (cold) joints or contraction/control joints exceeding 2” in depth ONLY. If used, the rod must be placed at least 2” below floor surface.
Prior to Dispensing Caution: Thoroughly read SDS and complete installation instructions prior to opening containers or attempting to dispense.
Mixing - Use a variable speed drill at low RPM and a paint mixing paddle (Jiffy or similar) to mix MM-80. Mix Part A thoroughly before combining.
Gradually blend Part B into Part A and mix for approximately 1.5 minutes or until thoroughly blended. Do not dilute or alter material. Mix entire kit.
Dispensing - MM-80’s viscosity is similar to a medium weight motor oil.
It can be poured from can, but best results are obtained by dispensing through a bulk-type caulking gun or a dual-component dispensing pump ratioed at 5:1.
MM-80 should be installed using a two pass method. The first pass should fill the joint to within 1/2” of floor surface. Within 60-90 minutes (at 70˚F) overfill joint with a second pass, leaving material “crowned” above floor.

REVISED 09/15
10. Technical Assistance Complete technical support and literature are available from authorized distributors, through our web site www.metzgermcguire.com or by contacting our New Hampshire headquarters at (800) 223-MM80.
11. Where to Specify and File Spal-Pro 2000 is exclusively for use in concrete floors and thus should always be referenced in 03251 (expansion/contraction joints) & 03300 (cast-in-place concrete).
12. Availability Spal-Pro 2000 is available through quality construction supply distributors in most major cities (locations available at www.metzgermcguire.com or through our New Hampshire headquarters.
13. Installation The following instructions are ABBREVIATED. Complete instructions are provided with each shipment.
Joint Preparation - Joints should be free of saw laitance, dirt, debris, frost and/or visible moisture. Joint cleaning procedures must accomplish the removal of all of the above, failure to do so could compromise adhesion.
Coating and sealers must also be removed from the inner joint walls. No primer is needed under normal circumstances.
Choking off the base of the joint is normally not required due to Spal-Pro 2000’s rapid set. Applicator may at his option choke-off the shrinkage crack if it is excessively wide (as shown in joint design spec, section 5).
Do not use compressible backer rod in saw cut joints less than 2” deep.
Dispensing in Ambient Temperature - CAUTION: Read SDS and complete installation instructions shipped with product prior to opening container or attempting to dispense. Spal-Pro 2000 must be dispensed with dual feed power dispensing equipment, or with pre-filled dual-cartridge convenience kits. Manual dispensing is impractical due to short working life (2 minute gel time). Power pump systems should be set at a 2:1 ratio by volume and use a 1/2” (12 mm) diameter static mixer with 30 or 32 elements.
Prior to Dispensing - Material provided in drums or pails should be thoroughly mixed with drill and paddle to redistribute any settlement that occurred during shipment. Cartridges should be aggressively shaken.
Spal-Pro 2000 is a two component material that is to be blended at a ratio of 2A:1B by volume. Fill repair, taking care not to entrap large air bubbles. The recommended procedure is to overfill (crown) and allow to cure. Crown can later be razored-off, leaving top of filler flush with floor surface. Razoring can be performed in as little as 15 minutes. Should filler cure below floor surface, abrade top of filler and apply additional material.
Large Mass Applications - Spal-Pro 2000 releases heat as it cures (exotherm), with heat generated being in proportion to material mass.
Too much exotherm can cause material to shrink in mass. If applying in applications that are wide and deep, layering is recommended. Apply in 1/2” thick layers, allowing 30 minutes between layers.
Installation Below Freezing - Temperatures below 32˚F (0˚C) will slow cure rate. When performing low temperature installations apply band-heaters to drums and pails and pre-warm, to 90˚F - 100˚F (33˚C - 38˚C).
Power dispensing equipment should be equipped with insulated reservoir tanks and heated feed lines. For dual cartridges, warm cartridges to (90˚F - 100˚F, 33˚C -38˚C) using heater box, heated water, etc.
Installation in High Temperatures - Extremely high temperatures may shorten gel time and accelerate cure. If material is curing too rapidly, cool in chilled water or by similar means.
Bubbles in Cured Filler - Bubble entrapment is possible due to fast cure rate. Pinhead bubbles, if they occur, will not affect durability-in-service.
Finished Profile Cured filler can be shaved to level, flush with the floor surface with razor.
Wide applications not easily razored can be sanded flush with a belt-sander using 40, 60, or 80 grit paper.
Clean-Up Spills of unmixed components can be cleaned up with solvent (Toluol, Xylol, MEK, Denatured Alcohol, etc). Cured product can be scraped or shaved off floor and tools.
14. Maintenance Once cured, Spal-Pro 2000 is essentially maintenance free. In floors with moving joints, adhesive (filler-to-concrete) or cohesive separation may occur. Refer to Technical Bulletin T11 (Joint Filler Separation; Causes & Correction) for additional information. Separations exceeding credit card width can be corrected by cleaning and refilling voids with additional Spal-Pro 2000 or Spal-Pro RSF.
16. Shelf Life and Storage Spal-Pro 2000 has a guaranteed shelf life of 365 days if containers remain unopened. Store in dry, cool areas away from excessive heat, freeze/thaw and sunlight. See complete installation instructions for info.
17. Safety This product is for industrial use only. Use only in well ventilated areas.
Practice all normal jobsite safety precautions (clear work area, etc). Refer to SDS and installation instructions for more information.
