WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT

Paragraph C-7.4.h (Mowing Herbaceous Vegetation) shall be the only service used in section C-7. The total acreage involved, including access roads, is estimated at 23 acres. Mowing of access roads is discussed in Sections A.

All fields were formerly farmed and are smooth and free of debris and obstructions. Getting to these fields involves driving dozens of miles over secondary state and township roads. Movement of equipment other than on trailers is neither safe nor timely.

The first cut is done after 15 June but before 15 July and the second cut is done after 15 September but before 15 October. Height of cut is not more than 6 inches. Mowing of access strips between fields is considered a part of this cutting as well as the farm roads leading to the fields.

Locations of Wildlife Areas:

1. Compartment #13 – Porter Road Access and Fields (5 acres) This area consists of a 25 ft. x 75 ft. parking lot on Porter Road and four plots totaling about 4 acres. They run parallel with Crooked Creek and between markers L42D-F to L42E-F. This compartment is accessed via a gated farm lane from Porter Road.

2. Compartment #15 – Cochran’s Mills Bridge (Mill Hill Road) Access and Fields (3 acres) This area consists of three fields. The first is a rectangular plot of about an acre. The second and third are about a half-acre each. The plots lie between markers R50G-F and R50D-F. This compartment is accessed via a gated gas well road located south of Cochran’s Mills Bridge from State Road 2026.

3. Compartment #18 – Cochran’s Mills Road Access and Fields (6 acres) This area consists of four fields and access roads. The first is crescent shaped of about three acres. The second and third are strip plots of about a half-acre each. The fourth is a deactivated field planted in White Pine Trees and is about one-half an acre. Care must be given when mowing this field to prevent damage to Pine saplings. This compartment is accessed via a gated road (Old Cochran’s Mill Road) from State Route 2028 (Cochran’s Mill Road). Once through the gate and at the bottom of the drainage area, turn right on the gas pipeline running between the plots.

4. Compartment #21 – Robb’s Fording Access and Fields (8 acres) Robb’s Fording consists of a small parking area, a canoe launch and five separate fields. The parking area and canoe launch is about half an acre. The first field lies between boundary makers L19A through F and is about two acres. The four strip plots are of about one acre each and lie between markers L20C through F. These fields are accessed by a farm lane that intersects to the right of Robb’s Fording Road on Government Property and then dead ends into the first rectangular plot. The farm lane begins again at the opposite corner of the rectangular plot and goes downhill and ends between the first and second strip.

5. Cherry Run Parking Lots and Foot Access – (1 acres) These two small parking areas with a foot trail require weed eating along the 6x6 post perimeter and to keep grass from the graveled parking lot. The larger lot is 750 square yards and the second smaller parking area is about 100 square yards.
