About this file

These are engineering design drawings for the Repair/Rebuild of Route 219 at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), New Mexico, prepared by the Directorate of Public Works Engineering Division. The project involves widening an existing 18-foot roadway to 24 feet, with comprehensive reconstruction including removing existing asphalt and base course, scarifying and compacting subgrade, installing new base course, applying tack coat, and placing a new 3-inch SP-IV asphalt surface. The drawings specify detailed technical requirements such as compaction standards (96% per ASTM D1557), concrete turndown curbs at driveways, new pavement markings using 4-inch thermoplastic striping, and traffic sign installations compliant with MUTCD standards.

The technical specifications include precise construction methodologies, including roadway grading, utility coordination (with communication and gas lines), material testing requirements, and traffic control protocols. The project covers approximately 0.60 miles with construction limits extending 50 feet from the road centerline. The drawings are dated May 2025 and marked "Issued for Construction", indicating they represent the final engineering design ready for contractor implementation. The project will involve careful management of existing utilities, adherence to specific compaction and material standards, and maintenance of vehicular access throughout the construction period.
