AMENDMENT 0001 NARRATIVE
The purpose of Amendment 0001 is to:
1. Publish the following questions and answers.
Q1. To compile a full turnkey response, we will need additional information regarding the Clin Item #3 (Workpiece Holder for RIA specified part) in document RIPD E4000-23-1-01. We will need to know how many parts; how much grinding is involved and the technical information for the workpiece holding design:
Ref: CLIN 0003- WORKPIECE HOLDER FOR RIA SPECIFIED PART
6.1.1 The contractor shall provide a workpiece holding device to hold a bulk amount of a singular part. The Jig Grinder(s) shall use the probe to identify locations of the parts being held within the device and the Jig Grinder(s) shall be able to perform the grinding operation on all the parts without the need for operator intervention. Part to be identified by RIA.
A1. It is a tube with the below dimensions, made of A2 tool steel:
4.134” +.003” long
.3122” -.5555” OD
.189” +.004” ID.
In the jig grinding operation, the tube needs to be held so that the ID can be ground to .1970” -.0001”, for a depth of .800” +.020” on each end, with a 16 or better finish.
Concentricity of the bores should be within .0001” to each other.
We currently hold the part in a vee-block, grind one end, then flip it and grind the other end. Ideally, tooling would mimic that and allow the parts to be loaded, ground, indexed, and ground, but more parts to be run more or less unattended.
Q2. In addition to the information requested below, can you explain how the site visit will be set-up so that we can plan accordingly? Ref:
3.4 Responsibilities
3.4.1 SITE INSPECTION: Any site inspections and/or measurements, which must be taken in order to determine the suitability of the proposed location or to perform the design of the system, are the sole responsibility of the contractor. This may begin prior to completing the bidding process. Rock Island Arsenal will support this function through the POC (point of contact) by guiding personnel, facilitating security registration, and providing general assistance. The contractor will be responsible for providing any and all equipment necessary for this process.
A2. A site inspection is not a requirement, if the bidder does not feel that they need to have a site visit, then they can identify that. However, if a site visit is needed or wanted the bidder is also free to ask questions pertaining to the site location.
2. All other terms and conditions remain unchanged.
