About this file
This document contains questions and answers related to a solicitation by the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) for autoclaves. The solicitation seeks vendors capable of providing autoclaves that meet the specifications, including fitting four carts per load in a chamber no less than 48" wide, 62" high, and 100" long to allow for maximum throughput. Vendors may propose autoclaves as small as 86" in length but must show the added cost to increase the length to 100" as desired. Proposals should ensure the equipment will fit through doors as required. The United States Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity is soliciting on behalf of WRAIR.

| Amendment 6 for the WRAIR Autoclaves RFQ (Notice ID W81XWH20Q0053) states that "Sterilization chamber shall be a minimum of 48" W x 62" H x 85" to 100" L max", but in order to fit the 4 loading carts the length of the chamber would have to be at least 96 inches long. Is the intention to process 4 carts per load? Do the new dimensions change the number of carts (6) being sought? |
WRAIR wants to have four (4) carts per load, the concern is that the equipment may not fit through the door. It is the vendor’s responsibility to ensure that it fits. You may propose your standard sterilizer that can fit the four carts per load. No change in number of carts (6).

| The specifications states that autoclave shall allow four load carts to be rolled into chamber via a ramp and the carts are to be no less than 48”W x 24”D x 60”H. |
Will you be accepting bids for chambers that are on the shorter side of the spec of 48” W x 62” H x 85” to 100” L due to the inability to fit 4 carts in an 85 inch chamber? Four carts at the desired spec comes to 96". We have the ability to offer the originally desired 100" L chamber but do not want to be beat by somebody offering you a smaller vessel.
Should I propose our standard 86" length chamber and show what the adder cost is to make it 100" long?
Yes, vendor can propose the autoclave that meets the specifications listed in the solicitation. However, WRAIR wants to have the 4 carts per load. It is the vendor’s responsibility to ensure that it fits. WRAIR is looking for a machine that fits in the space and provides the most throughput.
You may propose a sterilizer that can fit the four (4) carts per load.
