DoD Strategic GoalDoD Strategic Goal Short TitleStrategic Objective (SO)SO TitleSO Description
DoD Strategic Goal 3Strengthen and Enhance the Health and Effectiveness of the Total WorkforceSO 3.3Ensure that we maintain a highly-skilled military and civilian workforce shaped for today’s and tomorrow’s needs.Optimize DoD personnel by developing and instituting policies and practices that focus on readiness and support for Service members, their families, those transitioning to veteran status, and civilian staff, in a constrained fiscal environment.
DoD Strategic Goal 4Achieve Dominant Capabilities through Innovation and Technical ExcellenceSO 4.2Seek innovative approaches to improve cyber capability against growing threats.Improve awareness of security practices, vulnerabilities, and threats to the operating environment, by limiting access to only authorized users and implementing technologies and processes that reduce the risk from malicious activity.
DoD Strategic Goal 5Reform and Reshape the Defense InstitutionSO 5.1Achieve efficiencies and effectiveness to redirect resources to direct support of combat, combat support, and combat service support elements of the DoD.Build agile and secure information capabilities to enhance combat power and decision making while optimizing value.
SO 5.2Improve financial processes, controls, and information via audit readiness.Strengthen DoD financial management to respond to Warfighter needs and sustain public confidence through auditable financial statement.
SO 5.3Establish an enterprise framework for valuation and accountability of results, outcomes, cost, and risk. The DoD reporting entities and service providers’ requirements focus on improving controls and processes to support information that is often used to manage the DoD, while continuing to work towards financial, information technology, and support documentation improvements.
