About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a federal contract solicitation related to water softener installations. The Q&A addresses three key topics: (1) valve material specifications, confirming that alternative materials like fiber reinforced polymer or stainless steel are acceptable for the 1" multiport valve, (2) detailed salt usage estimates for multiple buildings and bays, totaling 72 bags per month across various locations including wash bays, water jets, and paint booths, and (3) a modification to the Performance Work Statement (PWS) regarding 648C Security Background Checks, which will now be required within 7 days of award instead of at proposal submission. The Q&A references specific sections of the PWS (sections 1.3, 5.1, and 1.5.6) to provide context for the clarifications.

Questions and Answers

1. In the solicitation it outlines the need for the new softeners to be installed with a “brass 1” multiport valve, without hard water bypass piston.” Would you accept a comparable valve made of materials other than brass?

A comparable valve made from materials other than brass (i.e. fiber reinforced polymer or stainless steel) will be acceptable. (See PWS section 1.3 and 5.1)

2. Can you provide me with the salt usages for the softeners on-site?

Estimates for salt usage are 72 bags per month broken down as follows:

3. Can you please provide me with documentation to begin the 648C Security Background Checks? It says in the PWS that our personnel must have these on file at time of proposal submission.

We are going to make a change to the PWS. This paperwork will be required within 7 days of award by the successful offeror. It will not need to be submitted with offers. (See PWS Section 1.5.6)
