About this file

This document is a Supplementary Quality Assurance Provisions (SQAP) for a Propellant Retainer Assembly (drawing 13-19-153, specification EA-G-1723) for the Pine Bluff Arsenal. The SQAP outlines detailed inspection and testing requirements for the assembly, including two critical test methods: a Leakage Test and an Inner and Outer Clip Position Test. The Leakage Test requires applying 5 psi of air to the clip side and checking for any leaks using a liquid detector solution, with no leakage permitted. The Clip Position Test specifies precise positional tolerances for the inner clip (diameter .138") and outer clip (diameter .178"), with specific positioning requirements relative to Datum-B.

The document follows MIL-STD-1916 for quality assurance and is prepared by Kenny Daniel and Kevin Atnip from the DIR - Product Assurance at Pine Bluff Arsenal. The SQAP mandates 100% examination for critical characteristics and emphasizes that the supplier is responsible for performing all inspection requirements, with the government reserving the right to conduct additional inspections to ensure the supplies conform to specified requirements. The sample rate for testing is specified as VL-III per MIL-STD-1916, and the Contracting Officer may approve alternate test methods.

Propellant Retainer Assembly (13-19-153)

Test Method A: Leakage Test

Using a suitable adapter, apply 5 psi (+2,-0 psi) of air on the clip side of the assembly. Wet the powder well/ match side 90.950" dia.) with liquid leak detector solution (or equal soap solution). Maintain the pressure a minimum of two minutes and observe for evidence of leakage. No leakage is allowed. Any foam or bubbles in the powder well shall be evidence of leakage. CAUTION: The base assembly must be securely restrained and the test pressure should not exceed 10 psig. The sample rate shall be VL-III per MIL-STD-1916.

The Contracting Officer may approve an alternate test method.

Test Method B: Inner and Outer Clip Position

Determine the Position of the Inner clip (13-19-115) diameter .138" and Outer clip (13-19-114) diameter .178".

Use basic dimension locators and datums (dwg 13-19-164) for view C-C diameter .091".

Inner Clip (small clip) Diameter .138" position with a .025" positional tolerance range at maximum material condition (MMC) to Datum -B-.

Outer Clip (large clip) Diameter .178" position with a .010" positional tolerance range at maximum material condition (MMC) to Datum -B-.

NOTE: Positional dimensions apply after assembly of clips.
