1. Background

The water currently being stored within the Industrial Waste (IW) lagoon comes from winter deicing processes, aircraft hangar maintenance and aircraft washes mainly, all through a closed drainage system. It was recently encountered that clean runoff from approximately 35 2” PVC schedule 40 hangar door drains are discharging to the IW drainage system. The runoff is not classified as Industrial Waste and therefore must be diverted to the storm drainage system.

All work shall be performed in in a safe manner and shall be accomplished in accordance with all local, state, federal, and safety regulations to include any hazardous waste disposal.

3. Objectives

The contractor shall create a closed drainage system which ties each door drain into a single header located within the floor drain. The header system shall be a 3” minimum (approx. 350

LF) and be securely fastened to the inside wall of the floor drain and pitched to drain toward the west wall of the hangar. The header shall drain to a sump pit installed by the contractor. The sump pit shall have a sump pump capable of pumping the runoff to a nearby 4” roof drain. The sump pit must be minimum 30 gallons and have a cover, with a minimum H-20 load rating that shall be installed to eliminate any tripping hazards. Electrical consideration/installation for the sump pump shall be performed by a qualified electrician. The sump pump may be powered from the nearby electrical panel located along the west wall of the hangar. The contractor shall install a pressure pipe (1” dia.) from the sump pump to the 4 inch roof drain (see Attachment 1) and tie into the roof drain. This will require a wall penetration and no doors, outlets, existing utilities or work stations shall be blocked by the routing of this pipe.

Throughout the period of performance the work area shall remain clean and free of debris. The contractor shall ensure no debris (concrete debris) enters the existing floor drain. The contractor is responsible for removal and disposal of all construction debris.
