27 August 2020 RFI Questions & Answers for W50S8520B0007 Repair Bldg. 168 Wellness Center
Q1. Sheet A401 shows (7) different section cuts at windows. Problem is they do not indicate where these section details take place. They are not shown on any floor plans, elevations, or window schedule. We do not know how much to count on detail 3/A201 the prefinished alum closure trim on (3) sides, or on detail 5/A201 the prefinished alum flashing trim at the head. The fact that all these details have A201 under them would maybe indicate the elevations on the window schedule A201 should have had section cut bubbles on them.
A. Sections Details are called out on the Window Schedule.
Q2. Half of the windows, types 4,5A,5B,5C,8,9,10 are designated Kawneer Tri-Fab 400 on the window schedule sheet A201. This framing is a non-thermal storefront framing and only accepts ¼” thick glass infill. We are going to bid this with Kawneer 451T thermal SF framing and 1” insulated glass with laminated inboard glass. I am checking with Kawneer to make sure they have testing on Tri-Fab 451T for blast. Please confirm this is ok.
A. Yes, Kawneer 451T is the correct framing system or an manufacture with similar performance/specifications.
Q3. Looking for a report on the existing window calking not containing any asbestos material.
A. The attached document (168 ACM Summary) of the 2006 asbestos survey conducted by the Army, 3 samples were taken of exterior “caulk crack sealant” and asbestos was found at 0-1.2% concentration. While not in the summary provided, samples were also taken of the window glazing, but were found to not contain asbestos. It should also be noted that the transite panels located between the windows on the first floor of the north elevation of the courtyard area (Sheet A301, Detail 1) contain 35% asbestos. Care must be taken not to disturb the panels when removing and installing the surrounding windows.
