D E S C R I P T I O N The Height Indicator/Receiver/Transmitter (IRT) is a Radar Altimeter that transmits an RF Pulse
Signal, receives the reflected return echo, and derives the proper signals for altitude range of 0ft to at least 1500ft. In addition, the IRT displays analog altitude, digital altitude, and high and low altitude warnings. It provides these signals along with an auxiliary analog altitude signal, a digital altitude signal, a reliability signal and a self test confidence signal. Digital altitude is indicated on a four digit lighted readout. Above 200ft, the digital altitude is rounded to the nearest 10ft. Movable markers positioned against the same dial shall indicate the preselected height above or below which the high and low altitude warnings operate. Unreliable operation is indicated by an "off” flag coming into view and the digital readout blanked when:
• The signal strength to the IRT becomes inadequate to provide reliable altitude information, or
• The IRT is turned off, or
• Aircraft power to the system is lost, or
• Aircraft altitude is above the maximum track altitude. The maximum track altitude is between
1,500 and 2,000ft.
Unreliable indications shall remain in view at altitudes above 2,000ft.

The RF Control Panel contains a delay line (30 ft) and attenuators in the ZERO RANGE LOOP.
With both attenuators set for 0 dB, the TOTAL ZERO LOOP attenuation is 50 dB from J4 TRANSMIT to J3 RECEIVE of the UUT. Throughout this procedure when LOOP ATTN is referenced, set the attenuators to the required value of +50 to establish LOOP attenuations.
The RF Control Panel also contains two attenuators in the FAR RANGE. When the attenuators and signal generators are both set for 0 dB, the established RECEIVE INPUT to J3 of the UUT is -20 dBm.
Throughout this procedure when FAR RANGE ATTN Value is referenced, set the attenuators to required value +20dBm to establish the required RECEIVE INPUT.
