About this file
This document contains a material safety data sheet and related federal contract solicitation. The material safety data sheet provides safety information for activated iron/iron alloy foils, identifying it as a pyrophoric metal requiring special handling and storage precautions.
Solicitation W15QKN-19-R-0133 is for the production, testing, inspection, packaging and delivery of M211 infrared countermeasure decoys and MJU-50A/B and MJU-51A/B infrared countermeasure flares. These products are part of the family of advanced infrared countermeasures used to protect Army and Air Force aircraft from infrared-seeking missile threats by generating decoying infrared energy. The solicitation references associated technical data packages and specifications listed in Section J as attachments. The Department of the Army Materiel Command Contracting Command Picatinny Arsenal is the issuing agency.

Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Activated Iron is pyrophoric. When exposed to air, it attains red heat quickly and provides a combustion source for exposed combustible materials. It is highly reactive with organic compounds when heated or exposed to oxidizing agents. Some hydrogen may be evolved during shipping or storage. Open flames and smoking prohibited.
