About this file

This is a printing specification and customer instruction document issued by the Illinois Secretary of State for Drive Away Vehicle Permits, Form VSD 632.5. The document outlines the requirements for printing 500,000 drive away permits with barcodes featuring two micro-perforated horizontal perforations. The permits must be printed by a union print shop as a mandatory requirement. The document includes detailed customer instructions for permit issuance, specifying that Illinois Resident Permits have a 7-day expiration period while Non-Resident Permits have a 90-day expiration period, with limits on permit issuance per vehicle per year. Permits are issued with proof of ownership verification and must display appropriate state addresses depending on residency status.

The pricing structure established by the Illinois Secretary of State charges $10 per 7-day permit and $27 per 90-day permit, with permits issued to licensed vehicle dealers and remitters. Licensed dealers are assigned numbered permits and bear responsibility for all permits issued to their dealership, with a three-year record retention requirement. Permits become void if any information is missing or altered, and operation of vehicles under these permits requires appropriate mandatory liability insurance coverage. All trucks and trailers must be operated on empty weight to maintain permit validity. The document specifies precise print specifications including screen percentages and variable barcode areas to ensure consistency and functionality across all printed permits.
