About this file
This document provides an appendix and questions and answers related to a Broad Agency Announcement from the United States Special Operations Command. The appendix discusses technology areas of interest including observer to point of interest systems that can be either handheld or vehicle mounted, man portable equipment defined as handheld or backpack mounted, and sensors including sensor balls and laser vibrometry for vibration analysis. While laser vibrometry is listed, other vibration analysis solutions are also acceptable. The related Broad Agency Announcement solicits white papers and proposals for research and development projects to develop technologies to meet Special Operations Forces mission requirements, with a focus on solutions that improve weight, protection, power, mobility, and system integration while reducing costs. Areas of interest will be added through appendices, with Appendix C specifically focused on the Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit and related technologies. White papers on topics included in Appendix C will be accepted until December 16, 2015.

BAA Appendix J Questions & Answer
4.4 Optical Electronics
Question: Does “4.4.1 Observer to Point of Interest: Ground-to-Ground/Air-to-Ground” include handheld and pan tilt or vehicle mounted systems?
ANSWER: Both handheld and vehicle mounted.
Question: Can you elaborate on “4.4.2 Man Portable Equipment and Turrets / Pods to Tower-Test”?
Is man portable meant to be handheld units or pan tilt units that are field deployable by a person?
What is meant by turrets? What is meant by Pods to Tower-Test?
ANSWER: Man portable means handheld, potentially backpack. A turret is a sensor ball. Pods to tower test is not an actual flight test but a test in a tower.
Question: Does 4.4.4 Laser Vibrometry mean that all solutions must include laser vibrometry?
ANSWER: No, though the intent is to collect vibration based information.
