About this file

This is a PowerPoint presentation detailing the technical specifications and requirements for the Defense Language Proficiency Test 5 (DLPT5), which is used by the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) to measure reading and listening comprehension abilities in foreign languages. The presentation outlines the test's design, which includes multiple-choice and constructed-response formats across three ranges: Very Low Range (ILR 0+ to 1+), Lower Range (ILR 1 to 3), and Upper Range (ILR 3 to 4).

The document provides detailed specifications for test items, including passage length requirements, number of items per passage, and content areas (cultural/social, military/security, economic/political, scientific/technological, and geographical). Reading passages range from 40-500 words and listening passages from 20-160 seconds, with specific requirements for each ILR level. The presentation also covers task types, comprehension types, and guidelines for creating multiple-choice items with appropriate keys and distractors. This technical documentation directly relates to the federal contract opportunity W91QF425R0003, which seeks contractors to develop 5,000-7,500 DLPT5 test items annually across approximately 350 foreign languages and dialects.
