About this file

This is a Taste Test Worksheet provided by the South Dakota Department of Education for evaluating food products used in state and local procurement processes. The worksheet is designed to systematically compare up to four varieties of the same food type submitted by different processors, or to evaluate individual products if multiple similar items are not available. The evaluation process occurs after products have been received and tested, at which point manufacturers and code numbers are recorded on the form.

The worksheet employs a standardized five-point scoring scale—with 5 representing "Very Good," 4 representing "Good," 3 representing "Just Okay," 2 representing "Bad," and 1 representing "Very Bad"—to assess four specific criteria: smell, appearance, texture, and taste. Each product can earn a maximum of 20 points across these four criteria, with scores recorded in individual columns for Items 1 through 4. The form includes a designated comments section for evaluators to provide additional observations or justification for their assessments. This standardized evaluation tool ensures consistent and objective product comparison during the procurement process.
