About this file

Summary

This file comprises surfacing specifications and a generic bid document for Play Matta System rubberized interlocking playground safety tiles, along with a contract opportunity from the Fontana Unified School District (FUSD) in California for playground equipment and surfacing maintenance and repairs. The Play Matta System consists of resilient, injection-molded virgin PVC tiles measuring 19.75" x 19.75" with a 1-inch thickness, featuring 0.75-inch 9-lug interlocking configurations and 145 hollow compression columns per tile. The system includes multiple critical fall height options (ranging from 5 feet to 10 feet) through combinations of tiles with various shock pads (PP-F35, PP-F55, PP-25PS, and PP-45PS), with tiles available in standard colors (grays, blues, greens, browns, black) and bright colors (red, orange, yellow, bright green, bright blue, purple, white). The FUSD contract opportunity, Bid No. 25/26-0042, seeks sealed bids through the OpenGov procurement portal with a deadline of 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 25, 2026. The District estimates up to $500,000 for one year of playground maintenance and repairs services.

The contractor shall provide all labor, installation hardware, incidentals, and related services, with playground equipment and surfacing materials supplied by the District. Installation must be completed by manufacturer-certified installers and comply with ASTM F1292-22, ASTM F1951-14, CPSC guidelines, and ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 standards. The manufacturer, Matta LLC (located in Wildomar, California), must have a minimum of 20 years of experience in playground safety surfacing manufacturing. A minimum 6-year non-prorated warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship is required from the date of Final Acceptance. The specifications include detailed technical requirements for subsurface preparation, aggregate depth of minimum 4 inches, concrete borders with specified dimensions and rebar, geotextile fabric installation, and heat-welded interlocking tile systems. The bid document is for informational purposes and does not constitute a binding commitment by FUSD regarding the estimated spend amount.
