About this file

This supplemental document is a resource notification from Greenville County, South Carolina detailing the availability of boulder and riprap materials for contractors working on county projects. Excavation activities at the Twin Chimneys Landfill in Honea Path, South Carolina have produced a substantial stockpile of boulders and large riprap suitable for stream restoration applications, with approximately 50 percent of available material meeting specifications for uses including boulder toes, boulder walls, vanes, j-hooks, and boulder riffles. The material is located at two sites within the landfill and is available for pickup at no charge to contractors. The landfill operates weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with material loading restricted to these designated operating hours.

Contractors utilizing the stockpile are responsible for selection, loading, and transportation of all materials and must identify suitable boulders for potential splitting or shaping onsite as needed. Greenville County assumes no liability for equipment left at the facility, and contractors must ensure that material movement and loading activities do not impede normal landfill operations or existing pathways. This resource directly supports the Cripple Creek Stream Improvement and Riparian Area Reclamation project, which requires substantial quantities of large stone for various instream and bank stabilization features, thereby providing significant cost savings through the elimination of material procurement expenses.
