a) Tasks:

1) Measure the size of the existing exterior doors and screen doors (kitchen, dining room, and living room), to include the jamb size, backseat of the deadbolt, and all other needed measurements. Verify the swing direction and rough opening size for each location. The new doors will be similar in design as the doors in Attachment 1 unless approved by the Contracting Officer Representative. All doors will either be wood, fiberglass, and/or composite. DO NOT assume that the dimension of any door is typical. Existing door openings may not be reduced in size unless approved by the Contracting Officers Representative. The existing deadbolts will be installed on the new doors (ensure the backseat is correct).

2) Identify the size, shape, and craftsmanship of the existing door frames, casing/trim, and threshold for each location.

3) Prepare for door installation. Remove existing screen/storm doors and exterior doors. Remove any casing/trim/molding. Ensure to use a utility knife to score along the edges of the trim to prevent damaging the wall. Remove the old door frame to include the threshold. Clean the opening, removing debris and protruding nails/screws. Replace rotted wood identified in the rough framing. * Contractor is responsible for any damage to the surrounding wall and floor.

4) Paint or seal all exterior wood features to be installed that will not be exposed or accessible after installation. Paint splatter or overpainting on the hardware, glass, and surrounding area is prohibited, and temporary removal and reinstallation of items that are attached, such as signage, to provide a complete paint job is required. Masking of non-movable items is required.

7) Install door frame, doors, casing, and shims (as needed). All doors will be plumb, level, and weatherproof when they are installed. The horizontal gap, or “reveal”, between the top of the door and head jamb will be uniform from left to right and 1/8 to 3/16 inch wide. The vertical reveal between the door and jamb on the latch side should be about the thickness of a nickel.

The leading edge of the door that rests against the stop, must clear the jabs by a consistent 1/8 inch. Seal any gaps between the jamb and rough opening. Apply a bead of caulk around the exterior trim where it meets the wall. After installing the exterior door, add weatherstripping around the door frame for additional installation.

8) Ensure proper door swing. Ensure the door stays put when in the open position. Ensure the door closes smoothly and latches properly.

9) Install any remaining casing/trim. Fill in any gaps between the casing/trim and the wall. Caulk all joints/seams, casing and trim. Caulk and seal around the exterior trim where it meets the wall. Prep & paint all new wood, fiberglass, and/or composite w/primer all sides & two finish coats that was not painted/sealed in step 4. Ensure hardware (ex. knobs, hinges, hooks, latches, catches, etc.) are not painted. Paint splatter or overpainting on the hardware, glass, and surrounding area is prohibited, and temporary removal and reinstallation of items that are attached, such as signage, to provide a complete paint job is required. Masking of non-movable items is required.
