About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the Tennessee Air National Guard, 164th Airlift Wing in Memphis, Tennessee, dated June 6, 2026, for the procurement and installation of shade structure canopies.

The project requires the purchase and installation of two shade cover structures with fabric canopies, each measuring 20 feet in length by 25 feet in projection (width) with a 10-foot entry height, to be installed in grass. Each section will be installed adjacent to one another to provide 40 feet by 25 feet total coverage. The structural components include eight hollow structural section (HSS) steel posts measuring 6.625 inches by 0.280 inches (10 feet long) and eight HSS cantilever structures measuring 5.5563 by 0.258 inches, designed to hold two fabric sections each. All structural steel shall be cold-formed HSS ASTM A500 Grade C with specified yield and tensile stress properties. Steel tubing must be triple-coated for rust protection using in-line electroplating with zinc and organic coatings per Allied Tube & Conduit manufacturing standards. All structural steel shall be detailed, fabricated, and erected in accordance with AISC Specifications, with shop welds executed per AWS D1.1 using E70XX 0.045 wire. Field welds are not permitted. All structural steel shall receive one shop coat of weather-resistant polyester TGIC powder coating (2.5 to 3.5 mils thick minimum) meeting specified pencil hardness, humidity, and solvent resistance standards.

The fabric component consists of one Desert Sand color, high-density polyethylene fabric with ultraviolet additives designed to cover the 40-foot by 40-foot shade area. Fabric specifications include tear strength (warp 220.46 lb, weft 462.97 lb per ASTM D2261), burst strength of 37.71 psia (ASTM D6797), minimum fading after five years, and a minimum life expectancy of eight years of continuous sun exposure. Fire testing shall meet NFPA 701 Test 2 and ASTM E84 standards with flame spread index of 10 and smoke developed index of 50. Threads shall be PTFE (Teflon) meeting high-strength, UV-resistant specifications (1200 denier lockstitch, 2400 denier chainstitch). The fabric attachment system includes specified steel cable assemblies, bolts, washers, and hardware. Anchor bolts measuring 1¼ inches by 24 inches (heavy duty hex bolts with nuts, flat washers, and lock washers) are required per post. Design loads are based on IBC 2006 standards with live loads of 5 psf, snow load of 5 psf, and wind loads of 90 mph (3-second gust) at exposure category C. Aircraft cable (7×19 strand core galvanized wire rope with 14,500 lbs breaking strength at 3/8-inch diameter) shall be fed through fabric sleeves around the canopy perimeter and tensioned until fabric panels reach a taut appearance.

TENNESSEE AIR NATIONAL GUARD

164TH AIRLIFT WING (AMC)

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE

6 Jun 2026

Shade Structure Canopy

1. Purchase 2 shade covers, with a fabric canopy, each 20’ foot in length x 25’ foot projection (width) from the post outward having 10’-foot entry height. This structure will be installed in grass.

The following parts make up the project at a minimum:

A. Eight (8) Hollow Structural Section (HSS) steel post 6.625 inches x0.280 inches, 10’ feet long

B. Eight (8) Hollow Structural Section (HSS) steel cantilever structures 5.5563 x 0.258 sections designed to hold 2 fabric sections each providing a 20’ x 25’ shade. The post will be mounted in the grass with the overhang providing 25 feet of shade from the post outward. Each section will be installed next to each other providing 40’x25’ of coverage.

STRUCTURAL STEEL

1. All structural shapes shall be cold formed hss astm a500 grade c, unless otherwise noted, typical mechanical properties for hss products:

hss 0 5.563 x 0.258 46,000 psi yield stress / 62,000 psi tensile stress hss 0 6.625 x 0.280 46,000 psi yield stress / 62,000 psi tensile stress

2. All plate products shall comply with astm a572 grade 50.

3. All steel tubing shall be triple coated for rust protection using the in-line electroplating

Coat process. Tubing shall be internally coated with zinc and organic coatings to prevent corrosion

As manufactured by allied tube & conduit.

4. Structural steel shall be detailed, fabricated and erected in accordance with a.i.s.c.

Specifications.

5. All shop welds shall be executed in accordance with the latest edition of the American

Welding Society (aws) d1.1 specifications. All welds shall be continuous where length is not given, and be made using e70xx .045 wire.

6. Shop connections shall be welded unless noted otherwise. Field connections shall be as

Indicated on the drawings (if required). All fillet welds shall be a minimum of 3/16" unless

Otherwise noted. Field welds shall not be allowed.

7. All high-strength bolts shall comply with ASTM a325 type 1. All nuts shall comply with

ASTM A563dh, and washers shall comply with ASTM f436.

8. All high strength bolts shall be tightened to a snug tight condition.

9. All structural steel shall be painted with one shop coat (2.5 to 3.5 mils thick min). This coat is a weather resistant powder coating based on Polyester TGIC (Triglycidyl Isocyanurate). To achieve optimum adhesion, it is recommended that the proper treatment and drying ake place before coating. Polyester powder (TGIC) specifications shall be as follows:
