Summary: Refurbish Air Handling Units Abridged Specifications
This is a technical specification document for the refurbishment of air handling units (AHUs) at TVHCS-Nashville Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) in Nashville, Tennessee, effective January 30, 2026. The specification covers five primary sections addressing HVAC common work results, motor requirements, HVAC fans, indoor central-station air-handling units, and air coils. The document establishes detailed quality assurance requirements, product standards, and installation procedures for institutional-class HVAC equipment suitable for medical facility operations.
The specification mandates that all AHUs be factory-fabricated, assembled, and tested by manufacturers with a minimum five-year track record of similar work. Units must feature insulated double-wall galvanized steel casing with solid construction (no perforations), minimum 50mm insulation thickness, and premium efficiency motors compliant with the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Key requirements include AHRI 430 and AHRI 260 certification for plenum fan units; Leakage Class 12 maximum per SMACNA standards when tested at 1.5 times design static pressure; epoxy-coated cooling coils for high-humidity areas with minimum 6,000-hour salt spray resistance; stainless steel 304 condensate drain pans with integrated insulation; and comprehensive factory testing including sound power level measurements in each octave band. All equipment must be completely removable for future maintenance, feature air-tight access doors with observation windows, and include vapor-proof lighting in service sections. Motors must achieve specified premium efficiency ratings, include proper vibration isolation and dampening, and be suitable for variable frequency drive applications. The contractor bears full responsibility for ensuring equipment meets allocated space requirements, addressing any dimensional conflicts, and providing authorized factory representatives for job-site assembly supervision and startup services.
