About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file dated 6/18/2025 for DLA Aviation Granite Surface Plates, Solicitation Number SP4703-25-Q-0048. The Q&A addresses two key vendor concerns: calibration scheduling and surface plate resurfacing. In the first question, the vendor seeks clarification on calibration timing, to which the government confirms all calibrations are completed once annually on the same day (last year on December 26th). The second question involves the vendor's ability to resurface granite plates, specifically highlighting challenges with maintaining AA-rated plate tolerances. The government acknowledges that while they prefer maintaining AA-rated plates, they can still perform acceptable inspections using "A" rated tables if necessary.

DLA Aviation Granite Surface Plates
SP4703-25-Q-0048
Questions / Answers
Q1) Some locations have the calibration dates for everything fall during the same month, other have them throughout the year. I would need to know if these are able to be done all at once (probably over the course of 2 days) or if there will be multiple trips throughout the year and if so how many trips they will require.
A1) I am unsure where they are seeing the “calibration dates for everything fall during the same month, other have them throughout the year”, but I can confirm that all calibrations are completed once a year on the same day. For example, all the plates and the hardness tester were completed last year on December 26th.
Q2) The other thing is that we absolutely would have to be able to price any resurfacing as a per hour as required fee. We also cannot guarantee that we can bring a plate back to the original tolerance. With some of those plates like the AA plates, we will not even attempt to bring them back to AA. The tolerances are so small on a AA plate that once it is out of tolerance it has to be downgraded.
A2) If the vendor is stating, “The tolerances are so small on a AA plate that once it is out of tolerance it has to be downgraded”, then I say we have no other option than to accept that. Of course we prefer that our three (3) AA rated granite plates do remain AA, but we still can perform our inspections with acceptable results on an “A” rated table.
