Customer/Carrier Advisory
September 15, 2016
CA-15-09/09-0107 UPDATE 2
Subject: REAL ID Enforcement Update
Purpose: To inform shippers and transportation service providers (TSPs) of the
REAL ID Act of 2005 implementation in the Federal government and the potential impact to DoD installation access.
Be Advised: All Federal agencies are prohibited from accepting driver’s licenses or state identification cards from States deemed non-REAL ID Act compliant
(Minnesota, Washington, Missouri, and American Samoa) for physical access to
Federal facilities. Several carriers recently received incorrect guidance from DoD shipping activities that the Air Force will not accept driver’s licenses from states with a DHS extension as of September 15, 2016. This message is to ensure that carriers are aware that all Federal facilities, to include DoD installations will no longer accept driver’s licenses from Minnesota, Washington, Missouri, and
American Samoa only as of September 15, 2016. DoD will provide additional carrier advisories on the status of states and territories with DHS extensions.
UPDATE: Minnesota, Washington, Missouri, and American Samoa are not in compliance with the REAL ID Act and do not have an approved extension from
DHS; therefore, federal facilities are not permitted to accept driver’s license from these states and territories for access control purposes.
