Scope of Work
The APS-U Project is developing 9 feature beamlines that require two (2) separate mask assemblies. The mask assembly is a high-energy X-ray absorber that defines the beam size going through the beamline. This document specifies the details and requirements for fabrication and delivery of the Mask Assembly.
The Mask Assemblies shall be fabricated according to the key technical, material, and quality and acceptance requirements.
Recommended fabrication steps are provided to ensure that technical and quality requirements are achieved. QA documentation shall be provided with each Mask Assembly.
Deliverables
Two (2) Mask Assemblies as specified by drawing A304-PM0100-00 and A308-PM0100- 01, and associated QA documentation which includes a dimensional report on the Critical Dimensions, vacuum RGA certification, and a fiducial dimensional report. The documentation requirements are listed in the QA requirements section.
Schedule
The schedule below outlines the expected delivery schedule for the exit mask assemblies.

Technical Requirements
The following critical dimensions must be measured and reported to the APSU POC which will then be reviewed and approved prior to delivery.

QR Codes All masks shall be engraved with a specific QR code supplied by ANL. All documentation shall be traceable back to these codes.
Material Requirement GlidCop AL-15 has different strength with different stock size. The stock size to be used shall be bar stock. GlidCop must be purchased from North American Höganäs and material certification with the material strength data shall be sent to APS-U upon receiving the material. Work may progress only after this data has been reviewed and approved by APS-U.
Brazing ANL recommends using 50/50 Au/Cu foil of 0.004 inch thick in brazing flat surface to flat surface of the Exit Mask Assembly. For the details of the brazing, refer to the
| document 410201-00122 Technical | Specification | for | Gold | and | Silver | Brazing | of | GlidCop, |
| Stainless | Steel | and | Copper | for | Beamline | Vacuum | Devices. |
Alternative braze techniques and foil compositions can be used in lieu of the listed process, however, the vendor must obtain approval from APS-U for the alternative method or materials prior to proceeding.
Wire Coils Wire coils must be inserted into the cooling channel prior to brazing. Wire coils are used to induce turbulent flow and enhance heat transfer. The wire coils shall be fabricated based on drawing A308-PM0106-00. These are not off-the-shelf items.
Hydrostatic Test Hydrostatic test for the water fittings must be performed at a pressure of 225 psig per ANSI/ASME B31.3. The test should be conducted in conjunction with a flow test to report the flow volume and ensure no blockages. The test shall be conducted for 1 hour and show no visible leaks.
Vacuum Test and RGA The detailed vacuum specification is located in section 3.5 of ANL document APS Engineering Standard – Vacuum Designs (APS-PPR-VAC-000-A017-000128). The final assembly must go through bake out and a RGA scan. The RGA scan result must be sent to APS-U and approved by APS-U prior to the shipment of the masks.
Fiducialization Fiducialization data shall map the center of the mask aperture to eight locations: top and bottom of the body, inboard and outboard sides of the body, and upstream and downstream edges of the body. The POC will supply a drawing showing the required locations for measurement.
Cleaning Vacuum components must be cleaned in compliance with section 3.3 of ANL document APS Engineering Standard – Vacuum Designs (APS-PPR-VAC-000-A017-000128).
Shipping All flanges must be hermetically sealed to atmosphere using conflat or o-ring style blanks. Silver plated screws must be used to secure the flanges. ONLY silver plated screws are acceptable. One of these blanks must have a tube to allow for a dry nitrogen backfill which will then be crimped shut or a small valve which can be sealed closed when backfilling is completed. The shipping crate shall be attached to a pallet so that it can be moved using standard handling devices (forklift or pallet jack). They must allow storage of the items for a period of 6 months in an indoor environment. Irreversible indicators that record vertical shock loads of more than 10 G and tilt indicators should be attached to the shipping crates.
Each crate shall be labeled on the outside with the information shown below:
Part numbers and quantities of enclosed parts Recipient: Argonne National Laboratory, Advanced Photon Source Upgrade Address: 9700 South Cass Avenue, Argonne, IL 60439 QR codes of the enclosed parts Gross weight of each crate Conspicuous arrows to indicate its upright position
Reporting
Bi-Weekly progress reports are required. These reports may be a bulleted list in an email that details the manufacturing progress, issues and mitigations, potential and actual delays and forecast delivery information. Any deviation from the print specification (ANL drawings, this document, or any of the attached documents) must be communicated in writing via an APSU Supplier Disposition Report Form and approved by the APS-U POC. APS-U shall also be informed about the testing and reports in the table below.
