About this file
The document is a policy statement from the Sheriff's Department of Massachusetts regarding the disposal of liquid and solid waste at an institutional facility. The policy outlines procedures for the collection, storage, and disposal of solid waste, liquid waste, medical waste, hazardous waste, and grease/fat. Solid waste is removed from inmate living areas three times per day by supervised inmate labor and transferred to a trash compactor. Liquid waste is disposed of through a garbage disposal in the kitchen. Medical waste is stored in a locked room and removed by a contracted medical waste disposal company. Hazardous waste is disposed of by a private vendor. Grease and fat from kitchen use is stored in containers and removed by a contracted vendor.
The document does not appear to be related to the state and local contract opportunity provided, which is for the procurement of Fentanyl Gloves. The contract opportunity indicates that the Department has already notified the awarded vendors, and no further details are provided.

I. Storage and disposal of all liquid and solid wastes are to be performed in a manner designed to prevent transmission of disease, creation of nuisance and the breeding of insects and rodents.
Procedures
I. Collection, Storage and Disposal
A. Solid Waste
1. Solid waste is removed from inmate living areas three (3) times a day (usually after meals) by schedule. This is accomplished with supervised inmate labor.
2. Waste is brought to the bottom floor of each building, transferred to movable bins, and brought to a trash compactor area where supervised inmate labor loads it into the receptacle.
3. The receptacle is contracted from a private vendor and is emptied on a predetermined schedule or as needed.
B. Liquid Waste
1. Liquid waste, primarily residue from meals, is sent back to the kitchen inside meal carts and disposed of by a garbage disposal as soon as possible.
2. The kitchen area, including dining rooms, handles liquid and solid waste in the same manner.
3. Administrative area waste is disposed of in the same manner but it is handled by the
Building and Grounds staff.
C. Medical Waste
1. Medical waste is disposed of in the following manner:
a) Medical waste is stored in an approved container in a locked storage room used for that purpose only.
b) A medical waste disposal company contracted by the Department removes the waste on a regular schedule. The company removing the waste must inventory material and leave one copy of a signed and dated manifest.
D. Hazardous Waste Hazardous waste is disposed of as needed by a private vendor under the terms and conditions of the contract.
E. Grease, Fat Grease and fat accumulated through kitchen use is stored in containers provided by the vendor of record and removed in accordance with the contract agreement.
