If so, will the network connection be via fiber or copper and which panel/building will the network connection tie into?
Answer: Yes, it is to network with the existing campus fire alarm network through fiber in building 37. The existing fire alarm system is Siemens.
Question #2: Section 283100 1.6 - Guarantee Services – This section is typically not used as the VA has a service agreement that would cover these services currently and would be a duplication of cost. Are we to include Guarantee Services in our quote?
Answer: The VA needs a 1 year service agreement.
Question #3: Section 283100 2.13.D – Does the VA want the software/programming rights to the fire alarm panel? This would transfer liability to the VA and is not what has been desired in the past.
Answer: The VA does want the software/programming rights.

Question #85: Who is the VA campus provider for direct digital controls (DDC) for HVAC system controls? Do they tie into existing campus systems? If yes, which building and room?
Answer: Johnson controls, they will tie into the existing campus system located in building 37 or the penthouse of building 83.
Question #86: Will the VA provide all LP gas needed for building startup, testing, and temporary running of mechanical systems be provided at no cost the contractor?
Question #87: 01 00 00 1.31 photographic documentation notes commercial photographer or sub used for this work. Is commercial photography really going to be a requirement of this project per the spec? Typically, the general contractor provides this project photography documentation throughout the project. Hiring or contracting with a commercial photography company will incur more cost to the VA than typical construction photography documentation.
Answer: The VA does not require a commercial photographer. The contractor shall provide pictures throughout the project.
Question #88: 01 00 00 1.31 (2) mentions indexing and navigation system utilizing Autocad drawings and accessible on-line internet connection. Is VA requiring real time photography of the project and internet connections to view project photos in an online autocad program? This also adds more cost to VA than typical construction photography.
Answer: No, this is not necessary.
Question #89: 01 00 00 If real live internet access, Autocad photography, indexing, interactive plans, slideshows, on-line domain/web hosting, redundant servers, BIM services, and navigation system is required. What is the preferred system or service the VA required?
Answer: N/A
Question #90: Where is the Rain Garden detail referenced on sheets CS101-CS104, keynote #10?
Answer: See Sheet CU501.
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS (Received via email on 2023-06-01):
Question #91: Entry Canopy on AE513. There are steel items shown here. They are not sized, but clearly show an HSS, tension rod, and angle. Should I make something up for this or has this been eliminated and therefore does not show up on the Structural drawings?
Answer: Entry canopy has been eliminated from the project.
Question #92: Double line of beams shown on 1/AE315. This section shows two beams at different elevations along grid A at the vestibule. Should I include a second line of beams just along the vestibule? The structural drawings only show one beam here.
Answer: Second line of beams not required. Refer to structural drawings (SF121) for t/steel elevations. Also see 1/AE301 which does not show a second line of beams.
Question #93: There is horizontal bracing shown on SF121. Will there be an addendum with sizing or connection details for this or should we make an assumption?
Answer: The “horizontal bracing” is the joist bridging required per SJI.
Question #94: There is a cut WT shown on 9/S-501. Will there be an addendum with sizing or should we make an assumption?
Answer: Cut WT size shall match size of adjacent WF beam.
Question #95: On the one line shown on sheet E-601 it shows the feeder between the Generator and EDP as being sized for a 400 amp feed but it is being fed from a 600 Amp breaker and feeding a 600 Amp Panel. Is this correct?
Answer: That feeder should be sized for 600 amps. 2 sets of 4#350kcmil & #1 (G) in 3”C. ea.
Question #96: The generator on sheet E-601 shows it with a 96 hour run time sub base tank but In the specifications it mentions a 4 hour day tank with a main tank and references a specification section that does not exist. Also, it mentions a walk in enclosure. Are we to provide the 96 hour base tank with a walk in enclosure?
Answer: Please follow what is listed for the Generator on drawing E-601. This should be based on a weatherproof enclosure and 96 hour tank as indicated.
Question #97: There is an SL1 fixture shown on the ES101 site plan that is not shown on the fixture schedule. Please advise what the specs are on this type.
Answer: SL1 was changed to SL2
Question #98: Sheet ES101 shows conflicting pole sizes. Note 1 and note 2 are both referencing the same fixture SL2. Detail #3 on the same sheet references fixture type SL1 which does not exist. Please advise.
Answer: SL1 was changed to SL2
Answer #99: The primary duct bank feeder denoted by note #4 on sheet CU101 shows a couple black dots that could be handholes or manholes but there are no notes or details calling those out. Are those dots intended to denote Handholes/Manholes or above ground enclosures? If so is there a detail showing what is required?
Answer: Those dots are Manholes and are indicated with an “E” inside of a circle on drawing ES101). There is not a manhole detail however, provisions should be made based on the size of the feeders entering and exiting the Manhole.
Question #100: There are cameras shown mounted on the concrete poles on sheet ES101 detail #2 with Cat 6A running down into an underground conduit. There are no underground conduits called out on the drawing specifically for the cameras. On previous projects they asked for a fiber and a power conduit just for the cameras, that ran to all the camera locations, with stainless enclosures mounted on the poles that housed the fiber converters and power supplies.
Is that the intent on this project as well?
Answer: Yes, that is the intent
Question #101: The water and fire service are shown to come into the building separately. IDPH recommends to come into the building and separate the service to help prevent legionella. Should this be changed to reflect this?
Answer: The facility currently uses the Armstrong DMC “Brain” model for our mixing stations.
See attached mix valve document.
Question #102: Would PVC piping be acceptable for the below grade piping (Sanitary/Storm) in lieu of cast iron?
1. Answer: Solid PVC is acceptable for below grade piping only. For below grade site piping (Sanitary/Storm) outside the building, PVC is an option along with ductile iron per specs 33 30 00 and 33 40 00. However, for below grade piping within the building, we recommend cast iron (and not PVC) per spec 22 13 00. Of course, the VA can elect to accept PVC at their discretion.
Question #103: Do you have a model number of the Armstrong DMC mixing station you would like to install?
Answer: Leave the fire and water service as it is show.
