About this file

This document is a Revised Infection Control Plan for a federal construction project involving elevator rehabilitation at the Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VA Medical Center) in Chicago. The plan was approved on November 7, 2024, and addresses infection control precautions across multiple work zones during the modernization of Ogden Elevators as part of RFP 202.

The project is organized into seven primary work zones covering different floors and elevator banks (P6B, S10B, P8B, P9B, and P-7B). Work Zone 1.1 and 1.1A (16 weeks) and Work Zone 1.2 (16 weeks) involve Class III infection control measures requiring full containment with negative air pressure maintained at .01 inches of water gauge using HEPA-equipped filtration units with digital pressure monitoring and alarm instruments. Work Zones 1.3, 1.4, 2.1-2.3, 3.1-3.3, 4.1-4.3, 5.1-5.3, and 6.1-6.3 (1 week sporadic each) implement Class II infection control measures requiring active dust prevention, HVAC system isolation, sealed barriers, and HEPA-filtered vacuuming. Work Zones 7.1 and 7.3 (full project duration) serve as material and equipment staging areas with Class II measures. All work requires Contracting Officer Representative (COR) permits, removal or isolation of HVAC systems in work areas, installation of critical barriers before construction begins, containment of construction waste in tightly covered containers, and post-completion cleaning by VA Environmental Services with HEPA vacuuming and wet mopping. The plan includes product data sheets for Starc Systems LiteBarrier critical barrier walls, Global Industrial negative air machines, ZipWall temporary barriers, and fire-retardant poly sheeting specifications.
