COMMERCIAL REMOTE SENSING AND SPATIAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

DESIRED DELIVERABLES

The goal of the program is to develop and validate, in conjunction with industry or external partners, Commercial Remote Sensing and Spatial Information technology for new applications in transportation infrastructure maintenance, development, and construction. Projects should focus on and adopt commercially available technologies packages.

Commercial remote sensing includes remotely sensed imageries and data from satellites, aerial platforms, manned and unmanned vehicles etc. and related Intelligent Transportation Systems and services.

Spatial information technology includes Position and Navigation data from Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) etc.

Desired Products:

Innovative methods and systems for collecting information for measuring, analyzing and mitigating transportation challenges;

An operational system that uses integrated remote sensing and spatial-based technologies and products for monitoring and managing transportation system conditions;

Smarter, automated, and non-intrusive methods and technologies for quality control of infrastructure construction;

New capabilities for asset management, inspection, and condition assessment for continued serviceability of constructed infrastructure; and

Usable applications which would add value and enhance current transportation business practices adopted by state and local transportation departments.

Project website that will serve as a dissemination medium for project information to the general public.
