About this file

This is a Scope of Work and Specifications document issued by the Iowa Department of Transportation for the replacement of motorized fabric roller shades at the Hub Basement facility located at 800 Lincoln Way in Ames. The project involves removing existing motors and fabric roller shades from first-floor windows accessed through the basement and replacing them with new fabric shades, motors, and keypads. Two keypads will control separate shade sections (one for north and east sections, one for south and east sections), with shades mounting to bulkheads over windows and keypads positioned on columns. The windows are located 28 feet above finished floor level, requiring contractor-supplied ladders for access. Work must be completed during standard business hours (7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday) with coordination from the Department of Transportation to ensure employee safety during removal and installation. The RFQ submission window runs from May 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM CDT through May 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM CDT, with work to commence no sooner than July 1, 2026, and a single delivery deadline of December 31, 2026. Site visits are available at the contractor's discretion by contacting Purchasing Agent Kyle Williams.

The specifications require interior motorized roller shades fabricated from vinyl-coated polyester fabric with a 1% openness factor, compliant with NFPA 701 fire standards and NFPA 70 electrical code requirements. Shade hardware, electric motors, electronic control equipment, and fabric carry one-year manufacturer warranties from the date of substantial completion. Contractors must be registered with the Iowa Department of Workforce Development Division of Labor per Chapter 91C, Code of Iowa 2015, and provide their contractor number as a mandatory requirement. The manufacturer and installer must each demonstrate minimum qualifications of five years and three years of documented experience, respectively, in similar shading systems. Payment terms are net 60 days with F.O.B. Destination delivery, and the Iowa DOT will provide tax exemption certificates upon request. Sealed bids will remain confidential until the May 21, 2026, deadline, after which a Notification of Intent to Award and bid tabulation will be posted publicly on the IMPACS Business Opportunities site. No specific contract award value or budget range is disclosed in the available documentation.
