About this file
This is a Request for Information (RFI) submitted to Sobie Company, Inc., a sub/supplier on the Montague Area Public Schools Agricultural Classroom and Barn Construction project in Michigan. The RFI, issued by Jonathon Fisk on July 21, 2026, addresses three critical design clarifications regarding Bid Category No. 9 (LPDA) related to drywall, fiberglass reinforced panels (FRP), and cold-formed steel framing. The sub/supplier sought guidance on whether drywall would be required on the interior side of exterior wall girts, whether mold-resistant board was necessary for barn construction, and the specifications for FRP materials on the chicken room lid and associated framing. WinBerg Construction, Inc. provided the architect/engineer response on the same date, July 21, 2026.
The architect/engineer clarified that no drywall is required on the interior side of exterior wall girts; however, infill framing between girts will be needed where interior walls meet exterior wall girts perpendicular to ensure proper drywall backer and finish. Consequently, mold-resistant board is not required on exterior walls. For the chicken room lid and cold-formed steel framing above block, the FRP shall be white, smooth finish with a Class A rating. All RFI responses are to be directed to WinBerg Construction, Inc., Attention Jared Mott, at jared@winbergconstruction.com, with responses documented and processed as of July 22, 2026.

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
SUB/SUPPLIER: Sobie Company, Inc. RFI NO. 005
BY: Jonathon Fisk DATE: 7/21/26
PHONE: (616) 813-4214
BID CATEGORY NO. 9 BID CATEGORY NAME: LPDA
PROJECT: Montague Area Public Schools – Agricultural Classroom and Barn
PROJECT #: 22-136.03
SUBJECT: Drywall, FRP and CFM framing
REF. SPECIFICATION(S):
REF. DRAWING(S): A 321
REF. DETAIL(S): 8/A 321
TYPE OF QUESTION:
Civil Structural Architectural Mechanical Electrical Other
Question:
1) Cuts on A321 suggest there is drywall on the interior side of the exterior girts. Does this apply to all exterior walls? Do we need to provide infill framing between girts, or hat channel furring to achieve this? Please provide cuts.
2) Given this is a barn, do we need to provide mold resistant board on the exterior walls?
3) What is the color, texture, and rating of the FRP on the chicken lid and CFS framing above block?
Subcontractor / Supplier Recommendation:
RESPONSE BY: WinBerg Construction, Inc. Architect / Engineer
Response:
1) There is no drywall on the interior side of the exterior wall girts. Where an interior wall meets the exterior wall girts (perpendicular to), infill framing will be needed between girts for a proper drywall backer and finish.
2) No drywall on exterior walls, therefore no need for mold resistant board on exterior walls.
3) White, smooth, Class A on the FRP for the lid of the chicken room.
