About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for RFQ No. 19SP5026Q0011 regarding the supply and installation of fire-rated doors at the Chief of Mission Residence in Madrid, Spain. The document does not address the primary scope of fire-rated door supply and installation; rather, it clarifies requirements for ramp and railing construction and accessibility modifications at the residence.
Key clarifications from the Q&A include: the existing cafeteria staircase railing cannot be reused due to accessibility non-compliance and must be replaced per drawings; new ramps may be constructed of masonry if structural calculations demonstrate no overload to existing structures; the cafeteria awning structure may be raised by 10 centimeters to provide clearance; handrails are required on both the cafeteria and back alley ramps; if floor bolting is necessary for the cafeteria ramp, all penetrations must be sealed due to underlying waterproofing membranes; railing anchoring should be to the brick wall rather than the floor; the Embassy will handle electrical outlet relocation; the back alley ramp will not encroach on the street as the curb will be lowered; existing back alley railing must be removed and replaced with new railing; and a hinged gate section must remain operable on the back alley ramp. Continuous handrails are required on both sides of all ramp sections and platforms per Statement of Work section 2.4.7.1.
