CONSTRUCTION OF AN ACCESS RAMP

US EMBASSY MADRID, SPAIN

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS #2

Question 1: Due to the passage of motorcycles on the ramp, the finish may deteriorate over time, potentially disappearing and losing its anti-slip properties. Wouldn't it be more convenient to add another finish?

Answer 1: Yes. The Embassy will issue Amendment no. 2 to add a new finish base 60x40x3 cm shot-blasted tile, class 3, for exterior use. Updated versions of Attachment 6 - Specifications and Attachment 7 – Total Cost Break-Down will be part of the amendment.

Question 2: What type of stainless steel is required?

Answer 2: The stainless steel should be AISI 304 type. Amendment no. 2, as well as Attachment 6 – Specifications and Attachment 7 – Total Cost Break-down will reflect this requirement.

Question 3: Is it necessary to leave the drip edge in the future moto parking area?

Answer 3: Yes. Amendment no. 2, as well as Attachment 6 – Specifications will reflect this requirement.

Question 4: Can the guardrail be directly drilled on the moto parking area?

Answer 4: Yes, it can be drilled in that area.

Question 5: How many horizontal bars does the handrail need to have?

Answer 5: The handrail must have 4 bars as reflected in the sketch on page 4 of Attachment 6 - Specifications.

Question 6: With regards to Optional Line Item no. 2, during the site visit, it was said that the staircase would be filled with cyclopean concrete; however, in Attachment 7 – Total Cost Break-down, it is indicated that the area of the stairs will be demolished and excavated. What is it the correct option to be included in our offer?

Answer 6: Attachment 6 – Specifications clearly states that there is no demolition of the stairs. The demolition included in Attachment 7 – Total Cost Break-down refers only to the final part of the stairs to level the surface. Amendment 2, as well as Attachment 7 – Total Cost Break-down will reflect this.

Question 7: For the railing of Optional Line Item no. 2 – a) do you want the railing to also be made of stainless steel? b) the thickness of the handrail tube will be 6mm. Should we understand that the thickness will be 3mm + 3mm = 6mm, or do you want it to be 6mm + 6mm = 12mm over the dimension of the outer diameter of the handrail? In the second case, commercial tubes do not manufacture that thickness, and it will not be possible to construct that railing.

Answer 7: Yes, as discussed during the site visit, the handrail has to be stainless steel, AISI 304 type; this will be reflected in Amendment no. 2, Attachment 6 – Specifications and Attachment 7 – Total Cost Break-down.

As for the thickness, it has to be 3mm + 3mm =6mm, as stated in Attachment 6 – Specifications.
