About this file

This justification and approval document outlines a brand name only requirement for a fire alarm system as part of a project adding emergency power to a central chiller plant. The project involves constructing a new generator building attached to an existing building and installing a new generator, automatic transfer switches, and distributed control system components that must integrate with the facility's existing Siemens building management software and Johnson Controls Simplex fire alarm hardware and software. A brand name justification is provided for the Johnson Controls Simplex fire alarm system only, as full integration with the existing system can only be ensured through using Simplex components, at an estimated $100,000 value. The Department of Veterans Affairs project number is 506-21-110 and the contracting agency is the VA Ann Arbor Medical Center. The contractor will be provided 540 days to complete the required construction work.
