About this file
This document is an Addendum (No. 002) dated 07/28/2023 for the Heritage Shores Nature Preserve Walkway and Dock Repair project (Solicitation Number 2023-014AB) by the City of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The addendum covers details from a pre-bid meeting held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, and provides clarifications for marine construction contractors bidding on the project. Key instructions include using the BidNet Direct website for all communications, specifying costs outside the original bid request, and addressing the structural assessment of existing piles. Bidders are required to determine the condition of existing piles and include separate pricing for potential replacements or repairs.
The document includes specific technical requirements, such as a mandatory prohibition on using concrete slats and a requirement to use stainless steel (SS) for all nails, bolts, screws, and connectors that may contact treated lumber. The city emphasizes minimizing corrosion from ACQ treatment chemicals and requires contractors to use stainless steel materials, with a requirement to communicate in writing if such materials are unavailable. The pre-bid meeting attendance sheet shows representatives from the City of North Myrtle Beach and several construction companies, indicating potential interest in the marine infrastructure repair project.

Questions submitted by Bidders during the Pre-Bid Meeting
Q1: Can contractors use concrete slats?
A1: No.
Q2: Does the City of NMB have a preference of using HOT DIPPED GALVANIZED (HDG) or
STAINLESS STEEL (SS)?
A2: Yes, please use STAINLESS STEEL (SS).
The Structural plans, sections, & notes 2023-014AB Heritage Shores Walkway and
Dock Repair include the following note:
NOTE: ON TREATED LUMBER CONNECTIONS – ALL NAILS, BOLTS,
SCREWS, AND CONNECTORS THAT MAY COME INTO CONTACT WITH
TREATED LUMBER WILL BE HOT DIPPED GALVANIZED (HDG), STAINLESS
STEEL (SS), OR OTHER APPROVED MATERIALS TO MINIMIZE CORROSION
CAUSED BY ACQ TREATMENT CHEMICALS.
The City of NMB requests the contractor to use only stainless-steel nails, bolts, screws, and connectors. If stainless steel materials are unavailable, winning bidder must communicate to owner in writing the inaccessibility, and the City will require further approval to proceed.
Q3: Can you provide some more information pertaining to the cross bracing?
A3: Yes. Please find the details in the attachment titled Cross Bracing SS Drawing - 2023-
