Controlled Documents Technical manuals, ordnance pamphlets, and ordnance data assigned to the TIL, which must be maintained complete, and at the current change level even after the document has been distributed. Controlled documents are assigned copy numbers and are distributed to specific individuals, which allow recalls for updates. A document may be issued as a permanent working copy and will be stamped "uncontrolled".
Uncontrolled Documents Copies reproduced and issued for temporary use and for which no change will be provided. Documents include: images viewed or reproduced from the Naval Ships Engineering Drawing Repository, aperture card or hardcopies of drawings, military and vendor standards/specifications, engineering change proposals, waivers, and deviations.
Secondary Repository A technical data repository established and maintained within a department/detachment and is formed for the benefiting customers.
Secondary Repositories act as an official repository, documents are checked out from the TIL. Secondary Repositories issue controlled copies within their Department/Detachment. These technical libraries typically contain controlled copies of heavily used documentation or drawings, and often also include data that is not TIL controlled but is critical in support of local engineering design or testing efforts. Funding, staffing, and facilities for
Secondary Repositories are provided directly by benefiting departments. Requests for new/additional Secondary Repositories require Code 10 TIL concurrence and approval. Departments assigned, as Secondary Repositories must follow reporting procedures for documentation issued to them via the TIL.
Technical Data Documentation or drawings relating to the technical aspects of operation, maintenance, repair, testing, and safety of hardware systems and equipment, which requires current revision and constant maintenance supervision.
