About this file

This is a presentation slide deck outlining the GEO Ground Project overview for a System Requirements Review (SRR) held in August 2022 at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. The presentation describes the GeoXO (Geostationary Extended Observations) mission ground capabilities, which will be met through a combination of GEO Ground System plus NESDIS Enterprise solutions.

The GEO Ground Project scope includes Mission Management (satellite command/control, mission planning, health monitoring), Antenna operations (RF downlink/uplink for S-Band, X-Band, and L-Band communications), and Data Operations (generating Level 1b science products and delivering L0/L1b data to NESDIS Cloud Framework). Key assumptions include evolving the existing GOES-R Ground System while simultaneously managing GOES-R, GeoXO and Space Weather Follow-On satellites without impacting ongoing operations. The project involves collaboration between NASA and NOAA, with responsibilities distributed throughout NESDIS and integration of new technologies where feasible while maintaining system reliability and security compliance.

GeoXO Ground Capabilities Introduction

• GeoXO mission capabilities will be met by the GEO Ground plus NESDIS Enterprise

• Accountability and responsibility for capabilities will be distributed throughout NESDIS

• Reusing existing GOES-R Ground System (GS) as GEO Ground

• Migration of some functions to NESDIS Enterprise solutions

• Outsourcing auxiliary communication services

• Integrating new technologies or enterprise solutions where feasible

Assumptions & Constraints

• GeoXO mission capabilities will be met by the GEO GS plus NESDIS Enterprise

• GEO GS will be an evolution of the existing GOES-R GS

• GEO GS will simultaneously manage GOES-R, GeoXO and Space Weather Follow On (SWFO)-L1 satellites

• GS evolution cannot impact ongoing GOES-R operations

• The GOES-R Ground Segment Project (GSP) will evolve into the GEO Ground Project after operational handover of the GOES-U satellite

• GEO Ground Project documents will evolve over time to accommodate the needs of both GOES-R and GeoXO
