Technician
Knowledge and experience in the following areas:
Processes routine incoming radioactive shipments which includes wipe testing each package for removal contamination, cleaning if contaminated, delivering to approved users, cross checking against inventory for approval and entering information into the database.
Coordinates documentation and packaging for transfer of radiation materials, including verification of destination authenticity
Performs standard radiation safety compliance surveys for both rad source usage and ionizing radiation devices.
Collects routine and special radiological samples;
performs routine sample analyses and creates analytical reports.
Participates in the radioactive waste program ensuring safe collection, storage, packaging, transportation and subsequent disposal of radioactive waste.
Operates calibration range and uses a variety of probes to perform instrument calibration on radiation measuring equipment.
Prepares and maintains complete, accurate, timely, concise and legible records of all radiation handling and safety compliance activities
Makes routine and special observations of the status of radiation safety systems and summarizes findings
Audits the status of Approval Holders, rooms and labs for compliance with radiation safety standards and protocols.
Provides advice, assistance and monitoring services to lab personnel regarding routine radiation safety compliance matters and during contamination clean-up.
Distributes and collects radiation area monitors.
Works with the other members of the office and the Radiation Safety Officer to ensure compliance with NRC licenses and federal/NASA ionizing radiation regulations.

Industrial Hygiene II A knowledge of the conventional methods, techniques, and principles of industrial hygiene is required, which enables the member to independently perform assignments related to the identification, evaluation, and control of industrial health hazards. Applies knowledge and skills necessary to conduct surveys and evaluate health hazards in industrial shops, laboratories, supply depots, warehouses where hazardous material is stored or transported, building construction or similar work areas. The industrial hygienist determines compliance with established threshold limit values and evaluates exposures using standard methods to determine the nature and amount of toxic material present in a variety of materials, such as environmental samples, body fluids, and industrial processes. The industrial hygienist independently determines measurements to be made and methods to be used, and calibrates and selects a variety of standard equipment.
Recommendations made concern the use of standard control measures and changes to work procedures or schedules to comply with established health requirements.
Associate Degree in
Industrial Hygiene is preferred

Industrial Hygiene or a closely related field.
