IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS TO ALL INDUSTRY DAY REGISTRANTS:
Starting August 4, 2014, all official visitors accessing Lewis Field or Plum Brook Station will be required to use state-issued identification that meets REAL ID standards as a form of identity verification. When verifying a visitor’s identification, the Visitor Control Centers at Lewis Field and Plum Brook Station will only accept driver's licenses or identification documents that meet REAL ID standards for official visitors and those attending a social, recreational, or non-NASA activity. This procedure applies to visitors 18 years of age and older.
Effective July 21, 2014, all federal agencies are required to adhere to the requirements of the REAL ID Act of 2005, Phase Two. The REAL ID Act establishes minimum standards for the production and issuance of state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards. It prohibits federal agencies from accepting, for official uses, driver's licenses and identity cards from states unless the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) determines that the state meets the standards. Official uses include accessing federal facilities.
There are currently 10 non-compliant states/territories that do not meet the DHS standards. These include American Samoa, Minnesota, Missouri, and Washington. Attendees from these states will need to have an additional I.D. to present at the Visitor Control Center.
Minnesota, New York, and Washington have an Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL), which is an acceptable identity document for access. Other forms of identification approved by DHS that may be utilized for visitor access include federal employee badges, passports, military identification cards, Enhanced Driver’s Licenses, Transit Worker Identification Cards, U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Cards, Native American tribal documents, or a school identification accompanied by an item from LIST C from the “List of the Acceptable Documents” on Form I-9. Acceptable List C documents may be found at: http://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/acceptable-documents/list-c-documents.
As a GRC Visitor please ensure that your form of identity verification meets REAL ID standards. Visitors without approved identity documents require escort at all times by their host while on Center.
Any questions regarding NASA’s implementation of the REAL ID Act of 2005, Phase Two, should be directed to the Office of Protective Services, Del Simonovich at 216-433-5049 or Del.R.Simonovich@nasa.gov. For a list of frequently asked questions regarding the REAL ID Act, please access the following link: http://www.dhs.gov/real-id-public-faqs .
