1. Section 1.1.2 System Requirements, NFPA 780 is mentioned, however, We would like to know which chapter is required?
Answer: To be determined by awarded Contractor’s design Engineer. NUWC provided drawing is for bid purposes.
2. They all seem to have (galvanized?) standing-seam steel roofing (according to the notes). Therefore, I cannot use copper on the roof, I can only use aluminum on galvanized steel. I would suggest that we run the copper conductor under the roof and poke the aluminum air terminals through the roof, but the specs do not want the roof to be pierced (I wouldn’t either).
Answer: The standing seam roof detail is an error. The existing roofs are not Standing
Seem. That was an error made by myself (Design Engineer). Purpose was to show an elevation detail.
3. The way Bldgs. 103 and 111 are drawn for the lightning protection, it may indicate that the roofs have a ridge (?) Or are they flat?
Answer: Roofs are flat.
4. If there is no ridge, then the center LP would not be needed. Only more than 50 feet of width would require ‘cross runs’ to form 50-ft. grids. Bldg 104 would require a length-wise cross run.
Answer: Answer: To be determined by awarded Contractor’s design Engineer. NUWC provided drawing is for bid purposes.
3. Does Bldg 104 have a ridge? There is only one angle for the elevation drawings and it’s difficult to know whether the roof has a ridge or not.
Answer: No ridge. Roof is flat.
4. Also, does E-2 elevations show another building in the background (right side). Because the roof drawing just shows a rectangular, one-level building.
Answer: Buildings 104 and 103 are attached via hallway. However, there is an addition off of Buildings 103 and 104 which is the structure illustrated.
5. Do any of the roof-tops have vent pipes or any other exhaust fan or mechanicals? If so, I would need to know where they are. If you have a mechanical/plumbing roof drawing showing locations. LP would not be complete without protecting them. I see Bldg 104 has three HVAC mechanicals on the roof (nothing else on any of the roofs?).
Answer: Building 103 has three mechanical HVAC units and a few vent pipes. Building
104 has 4 mechanical systems on the roof as well as a vent pipes. Building 111 has several units on the roof including satellite dishes, and several antennas.
6. Our contract states: “All required conduit by electrical contractor/others”. We can tell you the number of ‘roof eves to grade’ lengths of conduit you will need.
Answer: Understood.
7. For Bldg 111 (elevation drawing), is there an elevated walk-way on the left side? Or is it a balcony? It is shown above grade, it appears.
Answer: There is a staircase that leads to the roof as well as a lower level balcony.
