About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers file related to a Naval Surface Warfare Center solicitation for force and torque calibrators. The Q&A provides technical clarification about the calibration requirements, specifically revealing that the project involves measuring static torque, with a focus on calibrating torque wrenches to ensure precise bolt tightening to specific torque tolerances. Key technical details include an input torque requirement of 25 ft-lbs for the input transducer.

The associated federal contract opportunity is a pre-solicitation (Solicitation Number: N6426725R6003) by the Department of the Navy Naval Sea Systems Command for 2000ft-lbs Force and Torque Calibrators supporting the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Metrology and Calibration program. The anticipated contract is a Firm-Fixed-Price Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) with a five-year period of performance. Interested vendors are requested to submit a 10-page Capability Statement, with this currently being a Request for Information (RFI) and not a formal Request for Proposal (RFP).

Questions and Answers – 6,500ft-lbs. Force and Torque Calibrators

Question 1:

For the force and torque calibrators, what exactly are you testing? Are you testing the bolt tension and the torque on the bolt, or are you testing the torque values of an impact gun?

Answer 1:

Regarding the 6.5K Torque CSS, we are measuring static torque. For instance, one application would be to calibrate a torque wrench to be used to tighten a bolt to a certain tolerance of torque. This is not related to the dynamic torque of an impact gun.

Question 2:

What are you looking for in terms of needed input torque for the input transducer in this system?

Answer 2:

We are looking for an input torque of 25 ft-lbs.
