About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers file for a naval metrology contract opportunity focused on 6,500ft-lbs Force and Torque Calibrators. The file clarifies a technical detail about the calibration requirements, specifically that the testing involves static torque measurement for calibrating torque wrenches, with an emphasis on precise bolt tightening tolerances. The associated pre-solicitation indicates the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division is seeking a five-year Firm-Fixed-Price IDIQ task order for 2000ft-lbs Force and Torque Calibrators to support the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Metrology and Calibration program. Interested vendors are requested to submit a 10-page Capability Statement in response to this Request for Information (RFI).

Questions and Answers – 6,500ft-lbs. Force and Torque Calibrators
Question 1:
For the force and torque calibrators, what exactly are you testing? Are you testing the bolt tension and the torque on the bolt, or are you testing the torque values of an impact gun?
Answer 1:
Regarding the 6.5K Torque CSS, we are measuring static torque. For instance, one application would be to calibrate a torque wrench to be used to tighten a bolt to a certain tolerance of torque. This is not related to the dynamic torque of an impact gun.
