VISUAL DATABASE REQUIREMENT
Visual Database
Airfields modeled in the visual database will fall into two categories: the first will be referred to as “High Fidelity” airfields and the second as “Generic Airfields”. All of the Standard Terminal Arrival (STARS), and high altitude and low altitude instrument approach procedures as depicted in DOD Flight Information Publication (FLIP) documents associated with both the high fidelity and generic airfields will be present for the below-named airports. This includes all radio aids to navigation (VOR, VOR/DME, TACAN, VORTAC, NDB, NDB/DME, DME, LOM, Marker Beacons, Waypoints, Map Waypoints, and Flyover Waypoints) associated with the entire approach procedure and feeder facilities as depicted on the instrument approach procedure. These need to be selectable and displayed accurately at the IOS in the plan and profile view. Every runway will have airport surveillance radar (ASR) and precision approach radar (PAR) approach capability at the IOS, with sufficient information such that the simulator instructor can act as a controller to give the approach. A software database tool shall be provided to enable approved government or contract personnel to create, modify or add visual database information as well as approach, SID/STAR, waypoint and virtual data for the visual display and the IOS display as required. Additionally, there will be 20 blank pages available on the IOS for expansion. Area navigation shall be selectable at the IOS and shall include the IFR Enroute High Altitude and Low Altitude airways as depicted in FLIP; the following charts will be present: Low 3-4, 15-16, 17-18, and 19 and the Dallas/Ft Worth A-2 Area Chart. NAVAIDS (VORTAC, VOR, VOR/DME and TACAN), Route Data (VOR Airway/Jet Route, route identification, radials outbound/bearings inbound to a NAVAID, total mileage between compulsory reporting points and/ or NAVAIDS, Mileage between other reporting points, NAVAIDS and/ or mileage breakdown, DME fix mileage, and overall mileage, and Reporting Points (compulsory, Non-compulsory) shall be depicted with their identifier, and holding patterns. NAVAID data boxes will contain the facility name, its identifier, and channel/frequency. The information will be displayed as represented and defined in the “Legend” section of the “IFR Enroute High/Low Altitude” FLIP charts.
High Fidelity Airfields
These airfields will have accurate modeling to include: runways with associated runway markings (runway dimensions, runway identification, overrun dimensions, and arresting gear if indicated), taxiways, airfield and approach lighting, and generic buildings as depicted on the “Airfield Diagram” in FLIP. The following airfields fall into the high fidelity category: NAS Corpus Christi (NGP); Corpus Christi International (CRP); NALF Cabaniss Field (NGW); Harlingen/Valley International (HRL); and NALF Orange Grove (NOG). NAS Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi International, NALF Cabaniss, and NALF Orange Grove will be connected by an accurate representation of cultural and geographic landmarks used in the “In-flight Guide, VT31/VT35, Multi-Engine Turboprop” and “VFR Course Rules, NAS Corpus Christi, Texas”; these publications shall be available as GFI. A 50 nautical mile gaming area centered on NAS Corpus Christi will be accurately represented, with generic representation beyond the gaming area, realistic for the region.
Generic Airfields
These airfields will have 8000 feet (150 feet width and 1000feet of overrun) or 5000 feet (75 feet width and 0 feet overrun) of paved landing surface, VASI (visual approach slope indicator). Runway markings will be those specified for “Precision Instrument Runway Markings”, Section 2-3-3. Airport Markings Aids and Signs, Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM). Taxiways, buildings, or associated structures are not required. The following airfields, at a minimum, will be available: Brownsville (BRO), McAllen Miller (MFE), Kleberg County (T80), Alice International (ALI), Laredo International (LRD), Kelly AFB (SKF), San Antonio International (SAT), Rockport (RKP), Palacios Muni (PSX), Port Lavaca/ Calhoun County (T97), Pleasanton Muni (PEZ), Victoria Regional (VCT), College Station/ Easterwood Field (CLL), Beeville Muni (3R0), Chase Field, Goliad (7T3), Sinton/ San Patricio County (T69), NAS Pensacola /Forrest Sherman Field (NPA), Pensacola Regional (PNS). In addition, all airfields with 5,000 feet of paved landing surface, an operational control tower and an instrument approach procedure (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida) will be appropriately depicted.
The simulator NAVAID database shall include all NAVAIDS listed in the Jeppesen database for North America. Radio facilities shall include identifier, channel/frequency, latitude longitude, elevation, and magnetic variation.
