Section 17.3, Figure 3, Existing

Raw Water Intake, The Figure provided is not clear enough for all of the text to be legible. Can a scanned version, or the original digital version be provided so that all of the details can be understood?

Figure is attached in this email providing this inquiry doc for reference.

Yes, PDF drawing of the original titled 'Water Intake Drawing.pdf' is attached.

Section 17.3, Figure 3, Existing

Raw Water Intake, Can the owner/engineer, mark on the figure the exact 1925 Riser locations that are to be inspected? Section 14.6.1.1 - Inspection Locations, Page 13 of 25, notes that there are 5 cast iron intake riser structures that need to be inspected. The GPS Coordinates for the 1925 Risers was provided on the Figure 3, but does not indicated the spacing of the risers. Are the Risers paces immediately adjacent to one another as shown on Figure 3, Detail B?

The 1925 risers shall all be inspected from the outside to assess their structural integrity. Any one of the 1925 risers shall be opened by the contractor in order to inspect the interior of the pipe at this general location as directed in the scope of work. It is not the intention of the Government to have all of the 1925 risers opened for internal inspection. The risers appear to be approximately 6 feet apart, center to center as shown in the attached drawing titled "1925 riser detail and spacing.pdf"

Section 17.3, Figure 3, Existing

Raw Water Intake, For the ROV inspection, it is noted for the OPTION Bid Item, that the ROV will be need to inspect the full 8400 LF of pipe.

Can the owner/engineer mark on the Figure 3, the access locations where the pipe can be opened up (penetrated) for the ROV to access the inside of pipe.

The main concern being the lack of access points for the ROV to get in the pipe for inspection minimizes its ability to reach across longer distances. The single ROV would experience difficulty pulling 4200 LF of umbilical line from either side of the pipe. Especially if there is sediment causing friction on the line during the inspection.

The intake can only be accessed from 3 locations currently: the end in Lake Michigan, from the intake well inside Building 12 and from the 1925 risers.

Section 17.3, Figure 3, Existing

Raw Water Intake, Is there an opening for the ROV to access the intake pipe at Building 12 and will the contractor be allowed to use that access point for a portion of the pipe inspection?

Yes, the intake pipe can be accessed inside Building 12 at the intake well. See attached pictures of the intake well room and the intake well. There is a roof hatch for access directly above the intake well.
