BMP structures are a part of the storm drainage system that go an extra step to help maintain water quality and protect our waterways. They are engineered to hold water back during times of heavy rain and to allow at least some of that rainfall to seep into the ground or to have pollutants and excess nutrients be removed by natural plants and microbial action before they make their way into our streams and Bay.
Maintenance requirements for most BMP structures can be fully met by following the requirements for maintaining normal storm drainage areas as listed in 3.1.11.1.
For all areas of a Storm Drainage System that cannot be maintained by mowing (low lying areas, wet areas, swampy areas, ditches, drainage channels, catch basins, yard drains, curb gutters, curb inlets and other devices used to direct the flow of runoff) vegetative growth shall be kept to a bare minimum through mechanical, hand, and or chemical maintenance.
Two types of BMP structures
BMP Structures are maintained to provide Water Quality that meets permit requirements.

Station Roads listed in J- 1503050-05 and J-1503050-06 shall be swept after the threat of snow and ice is over for the season and before the start of the normal growing season.
This is to remove the buildup of sand snow melt and windblown soil from the winter months.
Station Roads listed in J- 1503050-05 and J-1503050-06 shall be swept near the end of the growing season and after leaf fall is over. This is to remove the buildup of rotted leaves, mud and windblown soil from the summer months.
